Personal Statement – Final Draft

I developed many skills overtime, but a skill that stuck with me for a while is working as a team.
On Sundays, I go to the church to help with the tech team. One of the things that I did as a tech
team member, was to help move or pan the camera around. Before doing all that, I often go to
the storage room and take the camera equipment out for the tech team. Then I set it all up,
plug in some cables, and turn the camera on. The members of the tech team would have me
zoom the camera in more, getting a better look at the musicians playing.
After doing that for a while, my supervisor Sharon asks if I’m interested in helping out using
PowerPoint and the program Media-shout that lists all the different songs that the musicians
play. I accepted the task, and move from doing one job to another. When the church begins
their service, the musicians start to play. That is where I go to Media-shout and choose the song
that they are singing to follow them.
When the musicians finish playing, my supervisor Sharon has me minimize the program Media-
shout, and switch to PowerPoint where the pastor begins to discuss certain topics. Since using
PowerPoint is the same as Media-shout, I would go and click to the next slide to what the
pastor will say next. I also have to listen carefully to what the pastor says, because there are
moments when they are discussing different topics, and I am still at the same slide. That is
when Sharon tells me to go to the next slide.
After I finish using PowerPoint, my supervisor will then say to close out of it and go back to
Media-shout. That is where the ceremony concludes. After the musicians play their final song,
there would sometimes be some quick announcements. But after that the pastor comes-back
and says a quote from the bible, that is when the service finishes.
My experience working at the church has been good. Working as a team, lets me have
conversations with other people for instructions and if they need assistance. This makes me
feel satisfied with the expectations, and proud that I get to work with others. If ever since I
started as a camera man at the church, my supervisor Sharon saw that I’ve progressed further.
That is where she promoted me to use Media-shout and PowerPoint for the YouTube live
stream. I seem to get better and better every time, and know when the musicians will transition
from the next set of lyrics to another.
