Compressed air in mobile systems

Compressed air
Pneumatic machinery needs clean air.
Air is a colorless, tasteless and odorless gas mix.
In reality, air also has up to 4 per cent water content.
Water affects the efficiency and reliability of compressed
air systems.
Air also contains particles, for example, dust, sand,
soot, and salt crystals. In major cities more than 500,000
particles per square meter can be found.
This means that air, whether compressed or not,
never is completely clean. This must be compensated
for in all compressed air systems.

Measuring quantities
Measuring compressed air

Pressure: Pa (Pascal), 1 Pa = 1N/m2

Energy: J (Joule), 1 J = 1 Nm

Flow: is measured in l/s

Converting measuring quantities

Pressure
1 Pa = 10 x 10-6 bar = 0,15 x 10-3 psi

Energy
1 J = 0,28 x 10-6 kWh = 0,74 ft x lbf = 9,48 x 10-4 Btu

Flow
1 l/s = 60 x 10-3 m3/min = 3,6 m3/h =2,12 ft3/min =4,71 yd3/h = 15,85 US gal/min
