2 GUAHAN:
3 WHEREAS, Dr. Michael T. Manalaysay is a member of UST Medicine
4 and Surgery Class of 1982. He finished his residency training in Pediatrics in
5 1987. In 1989, he became the first fellow-in-training of the Department of

 l Pediatrics UP-PGH; and in 1994, he was a Fellow in Nephrology at the Kitasato
2 University in Kanagawa, Japan; and
3 WHEREAS, Dr. Michael T. Manalaysay is an Associate Professor at the
4 Davao Medical School Foundation. He is the recipient of the First Professional
5 Chair in the Department of Pediatrics, Davao Medical School Foundation
6 DMSF. He has been in the academe for the last 22 years; and
7 WHEREAS, Dr. Michael T. Manalaysay has been the Chair of the
8 Department of Pediatrics at the Davao Medical Center, the largest tertiary
9 government center outside Metro Manila, for the last I0 years. He is a member
10 of the PPS Hospital Accreditation Board, and a board member of the Pediatric
11 Nephrology Society of the Philippines; and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Michael T. Manalaysay 1s the first Pediatric
13 Nephrologist in Mindanao. He has been a clinician involved in private practice
14 and part-time government service for the last 23 years. His clinical interests are
15 Obesity-Diabetes, Hypertension, Infections and Glomerular Diseases. He is a
16 consultant at the Southern Philippines Medical Center Diabetes Clinic; and
17 WHERERAS, Dr. Michael T. Manalaysay is a researcher reporting on various
18 fields of his interest. His works have been published in acknowledged journals
19 nationally and internationally. He has several books to his name. Noteworthy, is the
20 book "Pediatrics in General Practice," which has been distributed nationwide since
21 2001. He also has a regular, weekly column with two other colleagues in the
22 Mindanao-wide newspaper "Sunstar Davao"; and
23 WHEREAS, Dr. l\1ichael T. Manalaysay is also an entrepreneur and
24 businessman. He is the Medical Director of the largest dialysis center in
25 Visayas and !VIindanao - the La Vie Dialysis Center, which caters to both
26 pediatric and adult ESRD patients; and

 l WHEREAS, Dr. Michael T. Manalaysay also owns Primus Review and
2 Training Center for doctors and nurses. The center conducts a Hemodialysis
3 Training Program and Basic Life Support, and other related trainings; and
4 WHEREAS, Dr. Michael T. Manalaysay gives lectures, training and
5 leadership and team building seminars in various fields of interests, be it
6 medical, pharmaceutical or non- medical; and
7 WHEREAS, on the non-medical aspect of his life, Dr. Mike Manalaysay is a
8 recipient of the highest award given to a layperson in the Catholic Church, "Pro
9 Ecclesiae et Pontifice". He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Dei Verbum
10 Media Foundation of the Archdiocese of Davao; and he is also the President of all the
11 Lay Associations in the Archdiocese of Davao; and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Michael T. Manalaysay is the President of the Anak
13 Kaugmaon, a non-stock, non-profit foundation helping the Department of
14 Pediatrics of DMC and its patients; he is the President of a foundation helping
15 the Pediatrics Section of UP-PGH, named, the "Nephro KIDS for Kids Alumni
16 Association"; and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Davao Cancer
17 Children's Foundation, and the Dr. Gerry Cunanan Heart Foundation; and
18 WHEREAS, Dr. Michael T. Manalaysay is presently connected with all the
19 private hospitals in Davao City; and he holds offices at the Davao Doctors Hospital, the
20 Southern Philippines Medical Center, and the La Vie Dialysis Center; and
21 WHEREAS, Dr. Michael T. Manalaysay is married to Dr. Patria V. Manalaysay,
22 RN, PHD; and they have three children: Trisha, a Consultant in Internal Medicine;
23 Patrick, a Medical Intern; and Philippe, a 211 ct Year Medicine Proper at UST; and
24 WHEREAS, Guam is proud and honored to welcome Dr. Michael T.
25 Manalaysay to Guam as a Guest Speaker at the Fourteenth (14th) Annual Guam

 l Diabetes Association Conference to share his expertise in diabetes with the people of
2 Guam; now therefore, be it
3 RESOLVED, that I Mina'Trentai Dos Na Liheslaturan Gudhan does hereby, on
4 behalf of the people of Guam, recognize and commend Dr. Michael T. Manalaysay for
5 his contributions to educating the community on the prevention and control of diabetes;
6 and does further welcome him to Guam as a Guest Speaker at the Fourteenth (14th)
7 Annual Guam Diabetes Association Conference; and be it further
8 RESOLVED, that the Speaker certify, and the Legislative Secretary attest to, the
9 adoption hereof, and that copies of the same be thereafter transmitted to; Dr. Michael T.
10 Manalaysay; to the Guam Diabetes Association; and to the Honorable Edward J.B.
11 Calvo, I Maga'lahen Gudhan.
