Dr. Fe del Mundo’s Brief Background
Dr. Fe del Mundo, born on November 27, 1911, in
Manila, Philippines, was a pioneering figure in the field
of medicine and holds great significance in Philippine
history. As the first woman to be admitted to Harvard
Medical School in 1936, she shattered gender barriers in
a male-dominated field, paving the way for future
generations of women in medicine.
Through her emphasis on preventive medicine and specialized care, Dr. del Mundo
significantly improved child health and reduced mortality rates. The Children's Medical
Center, the country's first pediatric hospital, remains a symbol of hope, providing specialized
