Hydrogen is the most abundant element on earth, and is often thought of as the

ideal alternative fuel. However, the current infrastructure does not support
hydrogen as a wide-spread fuel. In order to expand the role of hydrogen in the
near term, one option is to use hydrogen for transportation by mixing it with
natural gas and use it for use in ICE engines. This new blended fuel is known as
HCNG, or hythane, for which the use will create a basic infrastructure for the use
of hydrogen in the future.
I have done my final year project on the mentioned topic but due to limited
sources we had to constraint our parameters and compromise on different levels.
This is the main reason that I want to continue my research in japan as it would
not only provide me with technical support but I would also get to work with
some of the best people around the globe. During my research I have come
across of different authors study work which are mentioned below.
In 2005, a brief experimental study is carried out by Marie Bysveen to test the
characteristics of Performance and Emissions by blending Hydrogen with CNG in
different proportion on a particular engine. In 2011, Emilio Navarro, Teresa J.
Leo, Roberto Corral, presented their practical approach, in which the different
blends of hydrogen and natural gas HCNG has been used in order to analyse the
influence of hydrogen fractions on the engine performance and CO2 Emission.
Selim Tangoz, Selahaddin Orhan Akansu, Nafiz Kahraman and Yusuf Malkoc, in
2014, presented a paper that deals with the effect of compression ratio on the
performance and emission characteristics with various proportion of hydrogen
and natural gas on a diesel engine.
The aim of the study will be to investigate the behaviour of hydrogen on the
vehicle performance and emission when mixed with CNG (compressed natural
gas) up to 15-20%. Hydrogen fraction is blend in natural gas and is used a fuel in
specific vehicle. Recent studies has shown a positive response on hydrogen on
the engine performance and emissions. In order to prove its credibility in the real
world, I would like to perform an experiment on the performance and emission
to get better efficiency for the betterment of our future.
