Subject: Community Health Nursing I Year/Level: BSN 2-C

LESSON 1:
Why did you choose to enroll at DMMMSU- SLUC- CCHAMS?

I chose DMMMSU as my school because many of my high school teachers told me

that DMMMSU is a great school. Aside from that, it is very accessible and organized when
it comes to its portal and announcements. I searched about the school online and saw
that the passing rate of nursing is high, so I decided to choose DMMMSU as my school. Of
course, the free tuition is just a bonus for us. After a year of my stay in DMMMSU-SLUC, I
learned a lot of things. I learned to adjust in many ways. My first impression never
changed because it meets my expectation. Teachers, instructors, and professors are all
great at teaching, and they are all approachable, considerate, and intelligent. I hope that
my stay with DMMMSU-SLUC CCHAMS will be great, and I will be able to carry this school
when I go to another country and share the knowledge I was able to learn. I wish that I
will lift this school until I reach my most outstanding achievement. I chose DMMMSU
because it was a great school, after all.

LESSON 2:

A. How does this Pandemic affect your daily living?

It's been a challenging and rough year since this pandemic started. People
struggled a lot, not just physically but also mentally and financially. The present status of
issues put the world on hold. However, this respite gave me a unique opportunity to think
about disturbing cases. It's either from depression, anxiety, and even heartbreak. The
time that so many others like me presumably likewise frantically expected to recuperate
without knowing it. Here and there, it dismantles one's reality succumbing to the most
beautiful mosaic to be developed from the messed up bits of destruction.

This pandemic changes my daily life routine in many ways. I was incoming first-
year college when it started. A lot of adjustment is needed, the learning system and also
the environment of college life. I wasn't able to understand all the modules. I was
depressed and stressed. That's one of the negative impacts of the pandemic to me. It
changed my daily life from happy to pure distraught. I'm alone in my house, minding my
own business and struggling alone. It affects me since I'm a very outgoing person. It is like
I'm stuck in a hole without any stairs to use. There's no way to escape.

But one thing I'm thankful, I became closer to God. The lockdown has caused us to
understand the significance of really liking the individuals we underestimate. However, it
has shown us the soul of fellowship, serving other people, and aiding where one can. It
has come to show us that cash and material things are not as significant as human
existence and focusing on one another amid hardship, it has shown how much significance
can emerge out of cooperating and how it can help a country and local area just by giving
an aiding where it is required and needed.

B. As a nursing student how can you contribute to avert the spread and
effects of COVID-19?

This pandemic brought us many difficulties, and we struggled not just physically
but also mentally and financially. It took much life and continuing to take life as the day
passes. One of the reasons is the people's lack of discipline. As a student, an effective
way to disseminate information about the transmission and spread of CoVid 19 and
knowing the proper of health education and teach them. One of the ways to
communicate is through social media. Everyone has social media right now, so it is a
great way to share with people. Health education serves to increase our awareness of the
health of every individual comprehensively. It has a broad and large capacity of
significance because it allows us to understand whatever transformation or changes we
need to accomplish, whatever beneficial things we need to acquire to the existences of
individuals, whatever healthy propensities all in connection to the transmission and
spread of CoVid 19, and also a way of life that we need to cause individuals to receive or
anything we desire to advance. The importance of health education in connection to the
transmission and spread of CoVid 19, for us to know the value of promoting or

disseminating information about maintaining an individual and the community about

awareness and preventive ways. It can also increment the viability of health services as
well as refine the efficiency of knowledge in the said disease.

LESSON 3:
A. On your own point of view, what is the relevance of studying /learning the
history of our own health care delivery system?
The Health Care Delivery is a systematic plan of services regarding health. It is the
way where people render health care services to the community. It is significant for us to
study and learn about its history because it is a complicated set of organizations to
provide a satisfactory health service. You will learn how they mandate a systematic
health care delivery to be responsible enough for national health policies and standards—
guidelines and other health care operations. Through studying, you can prioritize the
rules and regulations, goals, health programs, and policies. Aside from that, you will
learn how the health care delivery system started, from herbs and rituals to more
advanced and technology-based health services. You'll be able to know the goals and
values of Health care Delivery that higher officials desire. Through studying our health
care delivery system, we'll be able to acquire the essential capacity of the Department of
Health is the advancement, security, protection, or reclamation of the soundness of
individuals through the arrangement and conveyance of wellbeing administrations and the
guideline and support of suppliers of wellbeing labor and products.

B. Do you think that our health care delivery system is effective in

the delivery of health services needed especially in the
community? Why?
In my opinion, it is significant that we have a health care delivery system to have
better health care services that we can render to a community. But looking at our Health
care delivery here in the Philippines, I don't think it is successful and productive enough,
especially during the pandemic. Even before the pandemic, there's a huge demand for better
healthcare services. As a country where more than 16% of the Filipinos live in poverty, even
though the public sector dominates us, there are vast shortcomings from human resources
and infrastructure. At this point, where the flare-up of the Covid-19 is still rising, plus the
presence of mutated variants, I think our healthcare delivery system is struggling. The fact
that the ratio of the medical professionals to the patient is unfair, frontline tend to fail in
providing effective healthcare services. Staffing is what we need in the hospital setting right
now. Still, due to the government's unjust, corrupt, and unethical approach towards our
medical team, their objectives in battling the blinded war seem unfeasible. Also, we still
lack facilities and equipment since the budget allotted for the health sector is now on
search. No matter how great a medical professional is, if people in the community are not
working hand in hand, our goal's attainment seems unworkable.

LESSON 4:
“The basic unit so strongly influences the development of an individual that it
may determine the success or failure of that person’s life” (Friedman et al.
2003, p.4).

Family is the first and foremost social group of a child. Hence, the learning,
development, and socialization of a child influence most by their family. Humans aren’t
born knowing how to behave in a particular society, and the most common method for a
child to learn and digest is by observing everyday life. That is how the environment in a
family influences the growth and development of a person. However, the success and
failure of an individual are subjective. Win and failure are even subjective in themselves,
respectively. Society might label someone as a failure, but as long as they are contented,
and no one is being trampled on, then they might consider himself/themselves
successful. We can’t stereotype success and failure because we all have a different
perspectives in life. It always depends on an individual’s attitude towards every situation.
We can be successful in our way and in our definition of success, whatever or how our
respective family influences us.

LEARNING ACTIVITY

1. Share a news item about recent undertakings of WHO that you think will
impact on the health situation in the Philippines. Discuss the potential
effects of these undertakings on the local health situation.

The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the immense gaps in our healthcare
delivery system with the scarcity of infrastructures and human resources. With over 200
billion pesos from the Department of Health (DOH) budget to address the pandemic, no
improvements could be seen and felt in the communities (DBM, 2021). From setting
technical standards, developing national health plans, and protecting the overworked
healthcare workers, the government significantly lacked in creating an effective health
care delivery system. Recently, the vaccination was given to people ages 18 and above.
Many kinds of vaccines are available and accessible for everyone. They prioritize the
health workers and high-risk patients such as senior citizens and has lungs, disease
individual.
These undertakings of the World Health Organization is a great help to our local
health because it can lower the risk of the said disease. Impartial admittance to
protected and potent antibodies is essential to finishing the COVID-19 pandemic, so it is
gigantically reassuring to see such countless immunizations demonstrating and going into
improvement. WHO is working energetically with accomplices to create, produce and
send protected and viable antibodies. Protected and successful immunizations are a
game-evolving instrument: yet for a long time to come, we should keep wearing veils,
cleaning our hands, guaranteeing excellent ventilation inside, genuinely removing and
staying away from swarms.

Example scenarios:

1. Nix has Pneumonia and Chronic Kidney Disease. He needs to undergo

maintenance and Hemodialysis. He has a total of 24,355.60 for hospital
charges and 10,000 for professional fees. All in all is 34,355.60. But Nix has a
total of 20,560.00 of Philhealth Reimbursement that will deduct the total
balance of the payments. PhilHealth deduction is a great help for any
expenses in the hospital.
2. The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation assured the public it commits to
pay benefits due to all Covid-19 patients regardless of their admission date,
upholding its earlier announcement that it produces at cost.
3. Pregnant women who are about to deliver are covered by social health
insurance and will thus be qualified to benefit from maternity care benefits
at the opportune time.

3. With the content of this module as a basis, observe the activities of

personnel in a health center. Make a reaction paper based on your
observations.
A Healthcare worker is a benevolent individual who puts the patients' needs
first and conveys medical services. One of the duties of health care workers is to
show and provide care to the patients. These include physical and even mental
conditions. Nurses monitor the situation and health necessity of patients. As health
care workers, they encounter many different problems every day, and it may be
positive or negative that may need a well-built understanding of ethics. Nurses
should respect their patients, regardless of their religion, skin color, where they're
from, and even their gender identity. Knowing the proper and good ethics in
nursing practices will result in good communication with patients and their

families. I've learned that they can change lives in the briefest of minutes. Their
choices make influence the patient and even the patient's family. As a health care
worker, patients depend on you with their poise; consequently, it is your duty to
monitor their security, tune in to their worries and consider their desire for the
sort of care they like. It is also essential to know about ethics because patients can
build trust with you to attain the goal easily.
