FOUNDATION OF EDUCATION ACTIVITY 2

1. What are the major challenges in the Philippine Education?

A 2018 study found that a sample number of 15-year-old Filipino students ranked
last in reading comprehension out of 79 countries. They also ranked 78th in science and
math. One key insight from this study is it implies those tested mostly came from public
schools. Hence, the crisis also lies in the fact that a lot of Filipinos can’t read or do simple
math. (ChildHopePhilippines2020).
We all know and always the situation of our teachers at the high level is the learner
who can read but he does not understand what he is reading or worst of all do not really
know how to read. Related to this is the learner who step into high school or worst are in
college who also can’t solve simple math. Just like what I experienced in my first job he
is a Grade 9 student but he can't compute multiplication and division. These are the
major challenges of our education here in the Philippines.

2. What can you say on the Education System that we have today in our country?

Since the launch of k-12 and the ALS or Alternative Learning System, the Philippine
Education System has made great strides, which has always been able to lift compared
to the system of other countries in Asia.

Although other countries have been ahead in implementing K-12, the idea of
launching it in the country is good. In addition, there will be Business Courses that will give
students a choice - whether they will start a business after Senior High school or whether
they will go on to College immediately.

Much support for students has already been enacted. In a country where most
people are poor, scholarship is a big thing especially since education is what most
believe can give them a more comfortable life.

Next to the Health Care System, I believe that the Education System should be the
focus of the government. This is because despite the developments in the system there is
still a lot to take care of, adjust and need to act immediately really.

On the contrary, As a teacher, I can describe the education system in the

Philippines that we now have in a pencil that is intact on the outside but fragmented on
the inside. I can say this because yes, the teaching method is new but the superiors lack
the foundation and knowledge. I can say that nothing changes in the system because it
is like a pencil without a cup that lasts because it is broken inside or we can say that
nothing new is happening that shows progress Where only the trained continue to do the
only thing that changes is an external aspect of the curriculum but does not change the
method of organization in which not only the child can be shaped.
