“LET’S GO BEYOND THE NEW NORMAL”

Effects rippling from the Covid 19 emergency include changes in the

personal, social, and economic spheres. Unfortunately, pandemic life
is the "new normal" and not a justification to ditch your homework
anymore.
It does influence many concepts, ways of students to learn, and many
more. Unpredicted except through science fiction, movie scripts, and
novels, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed everyday life, caused
wide-scale illness and death, and provoked preventive measures like
social distancing, confinement, and school closures.
It has struck alternatively at those who provide essential services
and those unable to work remotely in an already precarious place.
Pandemic is now the chief of globalization as nations close borders.
Everything had changed, and no one was ready. The pandemic has
disrupted the flow of time and changed what was present.
Every day had been hard for so many constituents. And one of the
most contrived people in this time were the students who are needed
to learn many things as they have cultivated.
It's challenging to set standards amid pandemics. Before this all
began, we had deadlines, and they were either met or if they weren't.
But other teachers offered some leniency to students, knowing
everyone was having a difficult time. This system worked reasonably
well for those students who felt unmotivated due to COVID-19.
However, getting back on track will require some tinkering since this
has become our new normal.
Educational institutions in the country and around the world were
severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It became a worldwide
health crisis where everyone was affected regardless of age, gender,
and social status. The world stopped as the economy collapsed as all
businesses shut down operations. For instance, most countries
closed schools, colleges, and universities to contain the spread of the
virus. The crisis became a juncture, not only for the health sectors
but also for the education sectors. When the Philippine government
ordered closures of all educational institutions, the disruptions were
sudden since classes were still running. At the height of the
pandemic, educational institutions came out with remote learning as
an alternative solution. The immediate action and strategy aim to
mitigate the closure while continuously delivering quality education.
The sudden shift to online learning created a hot debate in the
Philippines about the poor living conditions of the learners. It
becomes a problem for those students who cannot afford resources
to avail the new platform in education. There's a message that tells
us that there is no child left behind. However, we cannot cancel
learning as much as to drive the economy. It led to tighter measures
for education institutions in sustaining their operations despite the
impending risks.
One of the problems I see is the conductivity of classes despite the
closure order. As the students in school pose a higher risk of spread,
the most viable solution is online teaching and learning. This kind of
way challenges the teachers and the students as if it is something
new to them. It calls for a quick response to the new normal in
teaching and learning amidst the pandemic. The shift to online
learning was sudden at short notice except, academic institutions
have to strategize and accelerate new forms of teaching pedagogy.
Education institutions must have a clear statement of their readiness
in the new normal. It includes consultation with stakeholders on how
the new way would take place in terms of online enrollment, the date
of school opening, teaching and learning modality, and the availability
of the learning resources. However, parents assert that this
homeschooling scenario is unfavorable to the students.
Homeschooling is a massive shock to parents and on social life and
learning of the students.
We need to comply with all the government requirements when
teaching and learning will continue for the current school year. Of
these requirements, health and safety protocols add a burden for
strict compliance and immediate implementation. Though DepEd gave
guidelines on how to prepare all the requirements for the opening of
classes, the documentation process is a tedious process completed
in no time.
There had also been a change on the setup in terms of learning,
answering, and teaching. Using a variety of presentation media as
well as a variety of activities to sustain student interest. No matter
how interested a learner is in the topic of a presentation or
discussion, that interest will wane in the face of monotony. Therefore,
it is recommended that teachers sustain student interest by varying
the use of presentation media. Teachers, for example, can alternate
the use of PowerPoint slides .

The use of different functions in Google Meet, such as breakout

rooms for group activities, voting, and raising hands, is useful
because they help us to be involved. It helps increase the learner
interaction, which may be lacking in a fully online class.

Another interesting area for future work will be examining how

teachers can support learners’ self-regulation during online flipped
classroom as well as what strategies can best motivate students to
complete the pre-class work.
Ultimately, starting a new school year in this environment means
quite a bit more patience and effort is required from everyone. We
have to have sympathy for our peers and our teachers, and we have
to push ourselves farther than what we thought we were capable of.
It's going to require a lot of hard work .Every difficult situation won't
be clear , and we'll have to ask questions we aren't used to asking
one another. We must take this opportunity to learn and grow the
best we can, even if maybe the economy isn't.
Yes, we need to linger and take time to contemplate the curriculum
question. Only in this way will we share what is common and
distinctive in our experience of the current pandemic by changing our
time and our learning to foreclose on our future. Curriculum
conceived as a complicated conversation restarts historical not
screen time; it enacts the private and public as distinguishable, not
fused in a computer screen. That is the “new normal”.`
As long as we do our best, I know, as a student, we can still go
straight ahead on our way for our future. As I said, no child is left
behind. Even though there are lot of circumstance heading our way,
we will still go along, until we reach what we dreamt for.
