CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

Covid-19 which existed not so long just became a pandemic in 2020, the effectiveness of the
virus and percentage of people who got affected alerted us. It spread quicker than the doctors
would expect, which shocked people all around the world, so as they studied the identity and
ability of the Virus of people needed to stay at home. This virus doesn’t have a cure yet up until
today. Blended learning was implemented in 2020 by DepEd students to cope up in their class.
Government officials implement protocols and guidance to assure everyone to be safe despite
the threats brought by the virus. The pandemic has fundamentally changed everything like how
we used to live, work and learn. It affects each aspect of our daily life. Sometimes life
adjustment can be tricky and can bring on new experiences and emotion throughout this
pandemic.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) data suggest that children under the age of
18 years represent about 8.5% of reported cases with relatively few deaths compared to other
age groups and usually mild disease. We as a student are trying our best to educate ourselves
to reach our goals which is to keep on learning despite what's happening around the world and
we're grateful that DepEd assure that schools will provide printed modules so the lack of access
to technology would not really be a hindrance . However some students would still need to be
online so they can participate in class discussions and honestly that's quite applicable. This kind
of setup are expected to reach new learning to the student by the help of technology. As they
say there's no shortcut for success.

Distance Learning is a big opportunity for all students to be more familiar with the digital
medium, and this way of learning enhances our knowledge about technology and also distance
learning is helping us pursue study and be familiar with technology simultaneously. Not just that
but also these factors show how helpful distance learning is not just to students but everyone
who is connected with the internet. According to Ingres Quality Rollout, ¹online learning offers
students the chance to learn new skills or improve existing ones. And this enhancement gave us
flexibility for all the fields.² As online education gives a greater degree of flexibility, it can be less
stressful to manage alongside other engagements. Whenever we try to learn a difficult subject
on a conventional school place we always ask our teacher "How can we apply this in our daily
lives?", And that question is suitable in this case, for the platform we are moving into at this
midst of pandemic Online, And Internet approach gave us lot of help and released work load,.
³Learning online help enhance digital literacy as it provides students with a clue into how to be
effective online and communicate with content, peers and lecturers. These advantages cannot
just be used for today but also for the future.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

When the global pandemic arised, there's lots of adjustments, especially new normal
learning. This refers to a learning delivery that combines face-to-face with any or a mix of
modular distance learning , online distance learning , and television , radio or internet based
instruction . It is important to know about how people or students are rather having difficulty on
how to keep up with the modern world because what we are going there today is no joke that
we should really take it seriously. Period sectors have been forced to quickly adapt to new ways
of doing things to ensure education continues across the country . Obviously the bigger
changes have been learning shifting from classroom to the home , with technology needing to
be adopted and improved to accommodate this . So let's talk about shifting pace of learning , it's
been well reported during lockdown that the pace of learning amongst individuals has varied ,
with concerns across the sector that some learners may have fallen behind their peers period a
recent report from the most disadvantaged schools. Researchers believe that only 30% of
students are engaged in schoolwork during lockdown , compared to 49% in the least deprived
school.

According to Jaehwa Bernardo, Students also lost peer support while others find it difficult to
learn their lessons by themselves, said Sorita, who is also a sociologist and a professor. Our
Social connection to people actually affects our daily performance for living and studying. The
longing and lack of support decreases our ability to be more productive and more available for
work for our everyday life. ²“With online, it's somewhat self-learning that we're trying to do.
Though some parents are there, there are also limitations to what parents can assist their
children with, especially with the higher [grade] level lessons,” he added. This statement reflects
that the only teacher we rely upon is the internet and not the actual teacher because at the end
of the day it will still be us, ourselves who will teach us the lesson.

Statement of the Problem

Adapting to the new normal is difficult and then the new normal changes and keeps on
changing. The new normal is continuously changing and no one can tell when things will get
back to normal. There is no clear timeline for when we can expect our lives to return to the old
normal that we used to have. School educators are considered to be second parents to the
students, they are the ones who educate and guide us along the path that we decided to take.
Transitioning from classroom teaching to online instruction and modulars distance learning are
one of the options or ways to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. It's very hard to associate
with losing the classroom connection between educators and students. This made a huge
impact on the students as well as for the families who rely on the school communities for
guidance and resources. Actually there are ways to help others in adapting to the new normal.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

This study focuses on the Coping mechanism of Students in Modular Learning and its impact
on their Academic Achievement in selected Grade 12 Stem Students at Calasiao
Comprehensive National High School The data collection will be conducted to 50 randomly
selected students in Grade 12 Stem Students at Calasiao Comprehensive National High School
S/Y 2020-2021 who will represent the population.

This study will not cover the effects that are not considered as one of impact. Each of the
respondents is given the same questionnaires to answer. The results of this study will be
applicable only to the respondents of this study and will not be used as a measure to the
impacts of modular learning to academic achievements of the students who do not belong to the
population of this study. The main source of data will be the questionnaire, which is prepared by
the researchers.

Assumption of the Study

The study focuses on how Stem students cope up in their Academics using the Modular
education system. Thus, the following assumptions were made ;

(1) How do the selected grade 12 stem students assess the impact of modular learning in
the academic achievement in terms of preliminaries, understanding, academic
achievements ?
(2) Is there a significant difference between the assessment of two groups of respondents in
terms of cited variables?
(3) How does modular learning impact academic achievements?
(4) What suggestions can be proposed to students to improve coping up with modular
learning?

Significance of the Study

Students, Parents and even Guardians and Teachers which is responsible in guiding this
sets of Students most especially this "New Normal"

Junior/Senior High School

--- It can and will help the Senior / Junior High School Students to gain awareness about the
anxiety/depression that will come along the way and to gain consciousness on how to adopt
changes most especially at school.

Parents and Guardians.

---It can help our dearly parents and guardians to provide support and guidance to this sets of
students and to help them carry the burdens of their respective Children that undergone new
changes.
Junior/Senior High School Teachers.
---this could benefits Junior and Senior High School Teachers to gain awareness also and to
give support to their respective students and to impart their important roles as a foundations and
second mother for their students experiencing challenging times.

METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN

Our research study is quantitative, correlational and cross-sectional research which

is a type of naturalistic observational research. The aim of this study is to see how stem
students in Calasiao Comprehensive National High School cope up with their study by
modular learning and how it has a direct, substantial positive impact on students'
academic results, as well as to see if the mediating effects of facilitation discourse and
versatility on the direct relationship will affect students academic success.

SAMPLING

From a total of 100 students, we will do a simple random sampling technique.

Questionnaires were distributed among students studying in Calasiao Comprehensive
National High School. We are going to conduct a random sampling in order to avoid
researchers bias, and for all students to have an equal chance of being selected.
