The Flash vs DC's Legends of Tomorrow

Episode 1: Pilot, The Flash & Episode 1: Pilot, part 1, DC's Legends of Tomorrow

The Flash season one, episode one “pilot” opens with a line from the main character,

Barry Allen, about believing in the impossible, as a red blur speeds past weaving through cars in

a large city. Everything in the opening scene is energetic and upbeat. In contrast, DC's Legends

of Tomorrow season one, episode one “pilot, part 1” opens in the middle of a battle in a dark

world without hope. The main character, Rip Hunter, describes an “evil dictator blessed with

immortality” who has attained world domination. As the scene continues, the evil dictator fights

his way to a mother and her young son. He then murders the mother in front of the young boy

before killing the boy.

In the next scene of The Flash, there is a flashback to 14 years earlier where now a young

Barry Allen runs from a group of bullies who then beat him up. Then while his mother takes care

of his wounds, he tells her that they had beaten him up because he stood up for someone who

was being picked on. In the same way, DC's Legends of Tomorrow’s next scene takes place back

in the present day and shows several people passed out on the roof of a skyscraper waking up.

The character Rip Hunter is introduced as a time traveler on a mission to save the world by

stopping a man named Vandal Savage, who will ultimately gain world domination.

The main plot for the “Pilot” episode of The Flash is that C.S.I. Barry Allen gains super-

speed in a lab accident and, with help from friends and family becomes a hero helping his city.

However, the plot for DC's Legends of Tomorrow “pilot, part 1” episode is about the time

master, Rip Hunter, assembling a team of heroes and antiheroes for an important mission to save

the future from a rising evil menace.

The main characters in The Flash are Barry Allen, Cisco Ramon, Dr. Caitlin Snow, Dr.

Harrison Wells, and Joe West. Cisco’s character is the funny nerd of the group, while Dr. Wells

is a very serious and intelligent man. Likewise, the main characters in DC's Legends of

Tomorrow are Ray Palmer, Sara Lance, Jefferson Jackson, Martin Stein, Mick Rory, Leonard

Snart, Carter Hall, and Kendra Saunders. Leonard is a clever and sly antagonist as apposed to

Jefferson, who was a promising football star prior to his injury.

Finally, The Flash is set in a large city in the current year, 2014. However, technology

has been highly advanced from the real world. In contrast, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, in the

beginning, takes place in the present year, 2016, however, the rest of the show has them travel all

throughout time.
