Design your own Angry Birds Level

The game Angry Birds requires that you shoot a bird from a slingshot in a parabolic curve and
try to knock down a variety of objects.

Scenario:
The pigs have been stealing the birds’ eggs again, and that makes them angry. Very angry! To
recapture their eggs, they catapult themselves through the air to hit the pigs, but they need to get
the path right.

Outline of Task:
You will create a series of three (3) levels of the game Angry Birds. Your project should include:

Task 1:
Design three (3) pictures, one (1) for each level, which will be imported into a graphing
app for showing the flight paths of the bird(s). The flight paths must: ·
● be different for each level
● be in the form of a parabola with the vertex and axis of symmetry clearly labeled
·
Each level must include a diagram/graph that clearly shows structures, a slingshot, birds, pigs,
etc. in the correct location. The pictures of each level can be drawn by hand or using a computer
app. The flight path can be demonstrated by one of the graphing apps
(desmos/autograph/GeoGebra)
Assume that we can only use the red bird with 3 shots and 3-5 pigs for each level and the
𝑥 − 𝑎𝑥𝑖𝑠 is the ground level, you need to design three levels:
Level 1: The bird must start at the origin (0,0) on the x-axis, and all the pigs can be placed
somewhere ON the x-axis.

Level 2: The bird must not be at the origin, and at least one of the pigs has to be somewhere
other than the x-axis.
Level 3: The bird must not be at the origin and none of the pigs can be on the x-axis.

The reason for the pigs or the birds not to be at the ground level needs to be realistic(e.g. they
have to stay on something). You can add other objects such as hills, shells, houses, etc to serve as
obstacles.

Task 2:
Write a report of 1200 words (± 10%)describing your process of designing the levels
and showing ALL work to develop each equation. The report should include a summary
chart showing the properties of and the equations for each parabola that the angry birds
are flying, the discussion on different solutions to the situation, the limitations and
validity of the solutions, and possible improvements to the project.

Below are the questions and information that need to be considered when writing your report
(you may add more). Your answers do not have to follow the same order.
1. Calculate the distance from the bird(s) to each pig and between the pigs.
2. Discuss different quadratic functions that can be used to hit the same pig. Compare and
contrast those functions. Which one is the best and why?
3. Discuss different positions of the bird(s). Discuss the range of the possible positions of
the bird(s) and/or the range of the possible distances from the bird to the pig.
4. Discuss the possibility of making multi-hit by one bird. Why can some parabolas cause it
when others cannot?
5. The challenges you face when designing the game and how you overcome them.
6. The reason for you to choose the positions of the pigs and the bird(s), the reason for each
obstacle you put in your picture ( what is the role of it?)
7. Reflect on how you can improve the project the next time you do it.
