CONVERSATION

Alex: Good morning! I would like to interview you about being a Nurse Entrepreneur. Is it okay
for you ma’am?
May: Yes of course!
Alex: Okay, so let’s introduce ourselves. My name is Alex Kate C. Dela. A third year nursing
student of St. Anthony College of Roxas City, Inc. What about you ma’am?
May: My name is May Aninang-Cepriano. I am a registered nurse and I also work as a Quality
assurance Nurse technician.
Alex: Okay, that’s good. So there are 9 questions about Nurse Entrepreneur. Are you ready
ma’am May?
May: Yes, let’s start.

Alex: 1. A brief background about the nurse entrepreneur.


May: Nurse Entrepreneurs may have their businesses to can help in their chosen career which
is in health care, can educate or train other professionals or community members, or provide
health care-related consultation, among other functions.

Alex: 2. Type of business. Is it full time or just a sideline Duration of business?


May: It’s a sideline duration of business where I can handle my time while having a full time job
as a Quality assurance Nurse technician.

Alex: 3. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?


May: My key driving force to become one of being an entrepreneur nurse was my family, for us
to have extra income while not just depending on our salaries, just like in our daily life we may
encounter unexpected expense in which if you have your extra income it would become a great
help.

Alex: 4. How did the idea for your business come about?
May: I was just once a viewer of those testimonial events of their life as an entrepreneur nurse.
Get inspired and have tried this kind of field which I never foresee to be such an enjoyable one.

Alex: 5. What qualities are most valuable, being nurse entrepreneur?


May: The number 1 quality you must acquire is being determined, go back to the reason why
did you come to idea of getting into this kind of concept. Next, is to become patient in achieving
those success, obstacles are part of the process, and lastly to enjoy what you are doing.

Alex: 6. What are the struggles that one must encounter as a nurse entrepreneur?
May: The struggles that I've encounter was that at 1st it was a hectic progress like I felt it
wouldn't work, hassle, like there was no earnings. Repetitive inquiries, different type of
approaches by the customers like they awe you something. But, as I've said just go back to the
reason why you have tried to go into this kind of business.
Alex: 7. Do you regret the four years you spent studying to be a nurse and then going into
business? If so, why or why not?
May: I never regret becoming a nurse for everyone can be an entrepreneur without going to
school and have a degree, but only those in medical field that while you are having a business
you have that knowledge in health at the same time. Which not everyone does.

Alex: 8. How do you define success?


May: Success for me is something that you have achieve, would it be small or big impact of
your life. Success is something that drive you to strive more, and success if what makes you
happy at the end of the day.

Alex: 9. What advice would you give to all student nurses or nurses who want to become nurse-
entrepreneurs in the future?
May: Simple advice I could share with those student nurses who aspire to become a nurse-
entrepreneurs in the near future is that to dream big, go out from your comfort zone, enjoy
business, know how to jive in the flow of life, learn from all the errors you've got in life and enjoy
life with God in the center of it. Be thankful even in the smallest blessing you've got.

Alex: Good morning! I would like to interview you about being a Nurse Entrepreneur. Is it okay
for you ma’am?
Sharon: Yes of course!
Alex: Okay, so let’s introduce ourselves. My name is Alex Kate C. Dela. A third year nursing
student of St. Anthony College of Roxas City, Inc. What about you ma’am?
Sharon: I am Sharon Dorado-Peralta. I am a registered nurse.
Alex: Okay, that’s good. So there are 9 questions about Nurse Entrepreneur. Are you ready
ma’am Sharon?
Sharon: Yes, let’s start.

Alex: 1. A brief background about the nurse entrepreneur.


Sharon: I am a Registered nurse since 2005 here in the Philippines and abroad (UAE). I have
total of 10 years experience in my nursing career. I decided to be a full time mother of 2 kids last
2018. I may ended my hospital service but my nursing career continues with my family and in
my community.

Alex: 2. Type of business. Is it full time or just a sideline. Duration of business.


Sharon: I have a sideline business, home based pastry shop. I started only this year (2021),
during pandemic time wherein everyone stays home and finding a new venture to be productive
and an extra income.

Alex: 3. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?


Sharon: As a nurse, we used to work in the hospital as a full time and really working hard to
serve our sick patients. We used to run for emergency cases, we used to be awake during
graveyard shifts and we used to help out our sick bedridden patients with their ADL. I chose to
work for my extra time to be more productive as I used to be.
Alex: 4. How did the idea for your business come about?
Sharon: Baking is my hobby and turns out to be a business. It started when I was just making
pastry for my family and friends and they suggested to sell it online. It gives me an idea to start
the said business.

Alex: 5. What qualities are most valuable, being nurse entrepreneur?


Sharon:
Time management- How will you set priorities between the business and taking care of my kids.
Maintain Cleanliness- Making sure that all equipment are clean to avoid contamination.
Innovative- ready for transformation and able to adapt with changes.

Alex: 6. What are the struggles that one must encounter as a nurse entrepreneur?
Sharon: Struggles that I mostly encountered, one is when my costumer did not satisfy with my
product. Secondly, the delivery time as I always make sure that my children are asleep when I
am going to deliver the items, I don't have extra manpower. Lastly, worries if the business will
work and always make sure to open for new suggestions and feedbacks

Alex: 7. Do you regret the four years you spent studying to be a nurse and then going into
business? If so, why or why not?
Sharon: No, I have no regrets in my decisions in life. I enjoyed my nursing career and served
for 10 years. I am still using my nursing knowledge and skills to my family and neighbors while
having these kind business. I can manage my own time.

Alex: 8. How do you define success?


Sharon: Success for me is a sense of fulfillment. Fulfilled that you have served your fellow
Filipinos and family. Success, is not about having a big house, lots of money but it is about me
being happy with my family and seeing them healthy and happy. Teaching them what life may
bring ahead and be contented in life.

Alex: 9. What advice would you give to all student nurses or nurses who want to become nurse-
entrepreneurs in the future?
Sharon: We nurses promised to serve and take care of sick people. We can still continue to
serve while we are in business. It doesn't mean that you're in a business you won’t be able to do
your nursing duties. It is always in our heart to help and serve.
