Section 5: Fire Fighting Procedure

Extinguishing procedures:
• Eliminate all sources of ignition, and fight the fire from the windward side of the fire with
extinguishing media.
• Wear protective clothing. As appropriate, wear other protective equipment, such as
impervious gloves and a chemical cartridge respirator with an organic vapor cartridge.
• As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in pressure-demand,
MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear.
• During a fire, irritating and toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or
combustion.
Extinguishing media:
Carbon dioxide; foam; dry chemical powder; or dry sand.

Section 6: Accidental Release Measures

• Keep people away from the area of the leak by fencing it off with a rope. Eliminate all
sources of ignition around the area of the leak, and bring in extinguishing equipment. In
case of large amounts, dike the spill by surrounding it with earth or the like to contain it.
• In case of small amounts, wipe off the spill with paper or cloth. In case of large amounts,
scoop up the spill using non-sparking tools into an empty container that can be tightly
closed, and burn the collected spill.
• Dispose waste into legal dump site according to local or state regulations.
• If the spill is discharged or other accidents happen, notify relevant public offices, including
police and fire stations, of the accident.

Section 7: Handling and Storage

Handling:
Protect against physical damage. Strictly keep away from all sources of fire. Avoid contact
with flame, sparks and high temperatures. Do not use any machines or the like that may
become sources of ignition. Handle at well-ventilated areas. Use safety glasses and
protective mask, as appropriate.
Storage:
Keep the container tightly closed, and store it in a dark, cool place, and away from direct
sunlight. In addition, all electric equipment in the work area should have explosion-proof
structures. Follow the applicable laws and regulations, including the Fire Services Law.

Section 8: Exposure Controls/Personal Protection

Engineering measures:
If generation of vapor or mist is possible, provide exhausting equipment including local
ventilation.
Personal protective equipment:
• Respiratory protection: Wear a chemical cartridge respirator with an organic vapor
cartridge, if necessary.
• Eye protection: Wear safety glasses, if necessary.
• Hand protection: Wear impervious gloves of neoprene or PE, if necessary.
• Body protection: Wear protective clothing with long sleeves, if necessary.
