Chapter 2 B Electronics

2.1.2.1 Command of the Source and Stand

2.1.2.1.1 Signals from the µP

The signals which command the sources and stands are generated by the MMB88 via its PPI 1's gates A and
B. The interfacing between the microprocessor circuits 5 V and the sources and stands' 24 V is produced on
the adaptation board by the ULN2003A drivers which mainly command coils, relays or valves. Each driver's
output is also connected to the electronics' 24 V across a LED diode and a resistor so as to visualise the state
of each signal (true when the diode is lit). The diagram of each output is shown below (figure 2.6) with the
exception of TIP-WASHER and RUNS).

Each ULN2003A includes seven drivers. As the seven drivers of an IC are not always connected to charges
supplied by the same 24 VS (two sources), it is not possible to use the internal protection diode. This is why
each coil has a parallel diode. Terminal 9 of the ULN2003A is left free.

Certain of the command signals must only be directed to the source or the stand which is to operate, which in
not necessary for the others. Selection is made by GRANT1 or GRANT2 for command of the stands and by
SSELECT or SSELECT for the source command (sea the following signal list), and in these cases the AND
gate is placed between the 74HC04 and the ULN2003A. These signals take an index of n = 1 or 2 at the
boards output.

GRANT1 Signal which controls the safety circuit of the stand on line and across this making the source
safety relay work. The READY1 signal comes back towards the ICS34B (see the signals
going to the µP).

GRANT2 This is the same as for GRANT1 but for the stand at 90°. READY2 comes back towards the
ICS34B.
