Enterprises, or known as UMKM in Indonesia are affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic. The
current market situation today is incredibly tough. We have seen many businesses only have 2
options, closing down or switching their business strategy. For those who still have capital,
obviously they could choose to change their business strategy. Now, the question is, how do
they change the business? Should they change the product? Should they change their marketing
campaign or should they change their way of doing their business by using technology?
Ladies and Gentlemen,
My name is Ketut Lingga Amritiya and I’m from SMA N 4 SINGARAJA. Today I
would like to deliver a speech about enhancing business strategy in this pandemic era by using
sophisticated technology.
Ladies and gentlemen,
We all realize that the biggest challenges of business today are the risk of meeting
people physically, and the power of buying that is decreasing due to unemployment. For these
reasons, I think we all agree that we have to find the solution based on what is needed by the
target market right now. People, especially customers, need safety, convenience, and
efficiency. Let’s take a look at companies which have high profits during the pandemic. One
of them is Amazon which had a tremendous increase of profit by 44% since September 2020.
How do they get such a high profit while most businesses in the world are collapsing? The
answer is technology.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Big Online retail companies today definitely have invested more capital on technology
as part of their business strategy even before the pandemic occurred. They optimize the
advancement of technology by providing apps and websites so that people can shop from home,
track their delivery from home, cancel the goods from home and return the goods as easily as
they want. As a matter of fact, even the UMKM now consider that investing in technology is a
great step towards profit. One example of UMKM which gains steady profit during a pandemic
is Bittersweet by Najla. They use Digital Technology as means of marketing by using
Instagram to share photos and videos of their product. They do not only use technology as a
medium to advertise their product, but more than that, they use Digital Technology to engage
with customers so they will have better data of customer’s feedback. This customer’s feedback
not only helps them to analyze and fix the problems of sales, but also to guide them in
developing new products.
Ladies and gentlemen,
From the examples of companies that I mentioned before, we can see that the
involvement of technology in the business is end to end. It starts from market research,
production, marketing or branding, even to engage customers. Considering that technology
drives our life more intensely than ever, I think we all are on the same page, that changing our
conventional mindset to be a digital mindset is fundamental in order not to be left behind.
To close my speech in regards to the importance of technology in enhancing business,
let me quote Sir Sukant Ratnakar who says that “Our future success is directly proportional to
our ability to understand, adopt and integrate new technology into our work.”
