Monday Morning

One Monday morning, Lena turned off a radio and put an umbrella in her backpack. The backpack
was so stuffed, the umbrella stuck out. On her way to school, Lena saw her friends Grace and Justin.
“Hey, Lena, wait up!” called Grace. Grace and Justin caught up with Lena. “What’s that sticking out
of your backpack?” asked Grace. “My umbrella,” said Lena. “What’s that sticking out of your
backpack?” Lena continued. “My soccer shin guards. We have practice today,” Grace said. They
always have soccer practice on Mondays when there’s no rain. The three children looked up at the
sun in the bright blue sky. They hoped that Monday the rain would not fall.
