Assignment:
1. Mask Head Span Block - A strong steel framework connects a pair of masts or king posts at the
head.
2. Derrick Head Span Block - The drilling apparatus is held in place by this support framework. It
serves as the structure for an oil rig's drilling gear.
3. Span Tackle - The span of the frames is the distance between any two comparable components.
The span of a girder is the length of a member between its supports.
4. Upper Cargo Purchase Block - A tackle for lifting bales and parcels that automatically disengages.
5. Standing Guy - is a person who steers a ship, sailboat, submarine, other type of maritime vessel,
or spacecraft.
6. Union Purchase - attributive designating a cargo-handling system featuring two linked derricks that
function in parallel.
7. Guy Pendant - pendants that link a boom's head to a guy tackle and serve to shorten the guy
tackle's length.
8. Slawing Guys Block - The tackle that runs from either side of a derrick's top for slewing and
steadying purposes.
9. Derrick Heal Lead BLOCK - It is part of the derricks 'running rigging' passing over at least two
sheaves set in the head block and the heel block, prior to being led to the barrel
10. Span Lead Block - two blocks each at one end of a span of rope at a masthead for studding-sail
halyards.
11. Chain Stopper - used to "stop off" wire hawsers preparatory to be laying on the bitts.
12. Lower Cargo Purchase Block - In the lower end of the pendant a guy purchase is shackled and
the lower block

lower deck accessed.
16. Rigged Derrick - is a lifting device composed at minimum of one guyed mast, as in a gin pole,
which may be articulated over a load by adjusting its guys. Most derricks have at least two
components, either a guyed mast or self-supporting tower, and a boom hinged at its base to provide
articulation, as in a stiff leg derrick.
