1. Define Indigenous People. Who are the people belong in the indigenous communities?

 Indigenous people are those people that are native to a certain area; they are
usually the inheritors of a group or tribe’s customs, beliefs, and traditions. They
preserved distinct culture, tradition, political and economic characteristics that
originated from their ancestors. Some known indigenous people are the Igorot’s
that reside in the northern part of the country and the Lumad that lives in the
south.
2. What is Republic Act. 8371?
 Republic act no. 8371 is an act to recognize, protect and promote the
rights of indigenous cultural communities/indigenous peoples, creating a
national commission on indigenous peoples, establishing implementing
mechanisms, appropriating funds therefor, and for other purposes .
3. What is the role/mandate power and functions of National Commission on
Indigenous People?
 Through the National Commission on Indigenous People, the rights of Indigenous
Cultural Communities/Indigenous People would be recognized, protected,
respect, and promoted.
4. Explain the challenges encounter by the indigenous people. 
 Since Indigenous people usually live in forests or places that are far from
civilization, their way of living is different from those people in the city. Most of
them are not being reached by the government that is why they lack the
privilege that they must attain like access to health and social services and
education. This is also one of the reasons why they can preserve their culture,
because they are not being affected by the colonization and the development it
gives to the people and country. Before, when colonizers came most of them are
deprived of their rights, as an indigenous group in their own land.
5. Write a position paper stating the current situation of the indigenous people in the
Philippines.
 Living in a country with over 7,640 islands it is not surprising that it inhabited
various indigenous groups. It is a known fact that a country’s culture and
language makes it different from one another. A lot has already happened; a lot
has changed but not the members of the indigenous communities.
Even before colonizers seize our country, we already have cultures, beliefs and
traditions that originated from our ancestors. Various ethnic groups were
formed; along with this is their own language and culture. In our country, there
are over 110 ethno-linguistic groups
