Lehrstuhl für Baustofftechnik

Institut für Keramik, Glas- und Baustofftechnik

Fakultät für Maschinenbau, Verfahrens- und Energietechnik

To whom it may concern Sep 21th, 2019

Mrs. Ayesha Mahmood from Lahore (Pakistan) worked in the group “Construction Materials
Technology” at the “Institut für Keramik, Glas- und Baustofftechnik”, TU Bergakademie Freiberg,
Germany. She stayed for a period of 3 months from Jun. 15th through Sep. 13th, 2019. During this
time, she performed experimental work towards her PhD thesis, which was supervised by Prof. Bier
and Dr. Wahab from our institute and Prof. Rizwan from NUST (Pakistan).

She worked on several cement-related topics including compositions from cement/polystyrene,

cement/phase-change materials and cement/graphene oxide mixtures and used thermal insulation
analyses, calorimetric analysis techniques and other devices. Specifically, she studied the mechanical
and flow behavior of different cementitious systems containing Portland cement and micro silica,
mixed with polystyrene beads, phase-change materials and graphene oxide. The goal of all
investigations was the development of cement paste with good workability, strong thermal insulation
properties and high mechanical strength after hardening. She performed extensive experiments
related to flow-characteristics of a large number of different cement mixtures.

We were impressed by her accurate experimentation and the very good job in evaluating and
presenting the data. She communicated exceptionally well in English, especially taking into account
that this was her first working experience in a foreign laboratory. Her friendly personality helped her
to have good contacts with the other members of the group. Discussions and working meetings were
always fruitful and productive.

Please do not hesitate to contact us (Tel. +49 3731 394243). More Information about our institute and
our group is available at http://tu-freiberg.de/fakult4/ikgb/bau . It is a pleasure to strongly recommend
her positive attitude, extraordinary diligence and her scientific skills. We wish Mrs. Ayesha
Mahmood success in her further career and personal life.

Sincerely,

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas A. Bier Dr. Mirco Wahab
