1.What is biodiversity in your understanding? Why do we need to

maintain the diversity of this planet?
Biodiversity is the degree for measuring the species richness in a given area. It means, the
biological diversity or in simpler terms the number of species a region has. The more
species a region has, the richer it is and thus the degree of biodiversity is good in that
region. We should maintain diversity, because biodiversity plays important role in the
lives as a human. Without biodiversity existence of human life is not possible on this
earth. because biodiversity around the earth is a natural process that undertake the
persistent and balanced of the ecosystem and life. to sum it up without biodiversity, there
is no future for humanity.

2.What is biological conservation? What’s the difference between in situ

and ex situ conservation?
Biological conservation is the protection and management of biodiversity
to obtain resources for sustainable development. In situ conservation of
biodiversity is the conservation of species within their natural habitat. In
this method, the natural ecosystem is maintained and protected. While ex
situ conservation of biodiversity involves the breeding and maintenance of
endangered species in artificial ecosystems such as zoos, nurseries,
botanical gardens, gene banks, etc.

3.Why do we need mangroves? Discuss the importance of mangroves in

10 in 5 various ways?
We need mangroves because they serve as breeding and nestling grounds of
animal’s species. Mangroves are important in many ways, they reduce the effects
of storm surges, tides and waves, they provide a habitat and food to various marine
organisms like fish, shrimps, and crabs, and wood obtained from this tress is
resistant to insects and therefore is more useful for making different items.
Mangroves also protect the human life during typhoon, because they can reduce
flood just like in Samar during the Yolanda typhoon. It also protects wildlife
species like snakes. It also stabilizes the coastline, protect water quality, provide
habitat for fish, protect young fish from predators and serve as nesting area of the
marine animals.
