Planning For Analytical Lab

[ Textile Sector ]
Instruments Vs Test Involved
Example:
• GC-MS/MS System: • Azo Dyes according to Restricted
Substance List (RSL)

Example:
• LC-MS/MS System: • APEOs according to Restricted
Substance List (RSL)
Instruments Vs Test Involved

• UV-Vis System: • Determination of Formaldehyde

concentration according to buyer
• HPLC queries.

• ICP-MS/MS + ICP-OES • Heavy Metal detection ( Inorganic

analysis)
Instruments Vs Test Involved

• AAS System: • Inorganic Analysis.

• FTIR : • Comparing the spectrum of sample

and standard.
Why do we test against RSL ?

A Restricted Substance List (RSL) is a list of chemicals restricted

in consumer products, usually due to a governmental regulation or
law. The purpose of an RSL is to reduce the use of hazardous
substances in consumer goods and supply chains.

Sample Preparation For Azo Dyes
Colored Check fabric: Needs to separate the colored cotton

Denim Fabric Needs to Separate the colored cotton

Printed fabric Needs to Separate the colored print

Solid & Liquid form Needs direct weight

Preparing Sample According to Composition

100% Cotton: 1mm × 1mm > Cotton Method ( C )

100% Polyester 1inc in length > Polyester Method ( P )

Cotton + Elastane ( no color) 1mm × 1mm > Cotton Method ( C )

Cotton + Elastane ( colored ) 1inc in length > CP

Cotton + Polyester 1inc in length > CP

Sample Preparation Room
Example of Extraction Process
AZO Analysis
Long Method (Polyester)
1 gm sample >>Soxlet extraction with Chlorobenzine >>Cool in
room temperature>>Evaporate in rotary evaporator upto 2ml
rest>>Add 15ml citrate buffer>>Take in water bath at 70 for
30min>>Add 3ml Dithionate solution>> Take in water bath at
70 for 30min>>Add IS>>Add 20ml TBME and pass through
porous Sodium sulphate to round bottom>>Again add 20ml
TBME>>Evaporate by Rotary at 500rpm>>Upto dryness and
add 2ml MEOH>>Take the residue to 5ml VF and upto mark
with TBME>>Vial>>Run in GC/LC.
