Understanding The Self

1. Whose philosophical perspective do you think makes more sense to you? Why?
In my stand, the philosophical perspective that made sense to me is the one that John
Locke said. He said that “The self is constructed from experiences” and I totally agree with it. I
think that this perspective makes more sense because experiences shape us as a person. The
experiences that we gain from our everyday living is what we bring today and what we will use
for tomorrow. These experiences help us grow as a person where it gives us lessons and
teaches us how to make a decision wisely.
What we are made of is because of our experiences, ourselves is shaped by our
experiences. The experiences that life gives us changes us every time. It adjusts our personality
to do what is good and to choose what is right. Experiences also give us learnings which we can
use to express ourselves and show who we really are.
2. Who am I?
I am a person who likes adventure. I like to explore new things and gain new experiences
from those things. I am also a person who likes physical activities, specifically sports. I like to
socialize with other people so that I don’t feel lonely. I am more happy when I have friends with
me because I like talking with other people and spending time with them.
I want to be loved and I also want to express my love for other people. When someone
loves me, I think that I am somehow special and when I feel love, I give love back to that person.
