Questions:
Q)How many people are employed/involved in the business?
A)The owner himself who is 56 years old and 2 other employees.(one major and another helping
hand)

Q)Is there a doctor available?

A) yes, they own a clinic which is just a hundred meters from the shop, the doctor is available on
Thursdays & Saturdays.(the doctor comes from Kolkata and so is not always available)

Q)Their average revenue?

A)the employee did not disclose any figures as the owner was not present, but after much
observation the estimate comes up to about 6-7 Lacks monthly revenue.

Q)wholesalers sell major food products at a lower cost and what is their way to fend off
competition?
A)wholesalers sell medicines and dog food primarily and that too in big quantities, we make out major
sales through accessories, toys, and other miscellaneous products, plus we have a lot more variety of
products.

Q)Do they provide services like home delivery in emergency situations or even generally?
A)right now they do not but if there is enough demand then they are willing to do so in a certain
radius.

Problems:
 Over-staffing: the shop requires 2 people to operate smoothly if the owner takes active part in
the management then employment costs can be avoided boosting the profits but the owner
claims that he is aged and faces health problems and so cannot be available daily.
 Location: The location of their shop is ideal for half f the city and minor cities like Burnpur but is
a longway from the other half of the city and so they miss out on a lot of recognition and
potential customers from that half
 Space: Space is another major problem at a time the shop can handle 4 customers space wise
and it is a common occurrence when there are more than 4 customers, the shop also has a small
warehouse that has large products which they access as needed or is the customer specifically
asks for those products so the customer cannot see their whole catalogue of products.
 Competition:there are two more shops in the same area within 600 meters of distance who act
as competitors and the rates of wholesale pet food suppliers are also lower than what they offer.
 Vet availability: the doctor is available only for 2 days of the week and is not available in
emergency situations.

Actions:
 Plans to open up another small outlet in the other part of the city in order to cater to more
customers.
 Hiring a locally living vet in order to occupy more week days and be present during emergency
situations.
 Sourcing larger variety of products.
 Opening up a home delivery service for products above a certain price range and within certain
distance(orders above 1000 and within 2.5kms of radius)

Feedback:(our feedback to the owner)

 Include any family members fit to be present in the shop if possible
 Increase space if possible by acquiring or renting the vacant shop next to theirs
 Offer cheaper rates if possible
 Deliver for a wider radius
