STUDY PLAN

My name is William from St.Louis 1 Senior High School which is one the most prestigious and best
senior high school in Surabaya,Indonesia. I am expected to graduate at the end of next May
2018.Considering about the opportunity to apply to National Taiwan University through principal’s
recommendation, I push myself to work harder and put a lot of effort into this, since National Taiwan
University is not only the best university in Taiwan, but also one of the top and leading universities in
the world. I expect to obtain experiences and practical skills after finishing my study in a Private
Company or Multinational company in Taiwan or other countries nearby. I wanted to contribute well in
a company by applying my knowledge and skills that I have acquired in my studies.

Introduction of my background
I was born in Jakarta as the third child of three siblings in my family. In 2015, I entered St Louis 1
Senior High School and have taken the science studies since my 11 th grade. I am always very interested
with subjects that are related to exact sciences such as math , physics, chemistry and biology throughout
my school year. Therefore, my capabilities in numbers, logical and analysis thinking in science studies
will be a great base foundation in order to learn more about chemical engineering in NTU.

Why do I choose to study in Taiwan ( go study abroad)

Studying abroad have always been one of me dreams when I was a kid.Having the opportunity to study
in another country is such an amazing and challenging experience for me.I was always looking forward
with meeting new people abroad , and learning the diverse culture in other countries. Last year on
December , me and my family went to Taiwan for holiday for 2 weeks.From that experience, I learned a
lot of new things the culture,habits and people in Taiwan.The environment and the people was very nice
and pleasant that it made me wanted to stay in Taiwan in a longer period of time. From that experience,
I was always looking forward to stay in Taiwan and study in Taiwan after I graduated high school. For
me, Taiwan is the epitome of Modern Chinese Culture which provides a safe and good environment for
many overseas students.On top of that,Taiwan has a reasonable cost of living compared to many other
Asian countries. By studying overseas, I could become an independent person since I have to step out of
my comfort zone and learn how to take care of myself without the aid from my parents or relative.Thus,
I could becoming more mature in the process. Studying overseas also helps me to gain more friends
which comes from many different country.Therefore, I could learn more about their culture, habit ,and
way of thinking. By studying in Taiwan, I also wanted to improve my Chinese language since nowadays
Chinese is one of the most used language in the world. I hope that by the time I finished studying in
Taiwan , my Chinese language gets better and more fluent.

Another reason why I choose Taiwan is because as one of developed country, some multinational
companies from other country have branches in Taiwan as a representative office or other business
activities, which helps me to have international Asian environment and network and make connections
with various organizations.Thus, I could learn about how the job is like and prepare myself before I
have a full time job

Why do I choose to study in National Taiwan University

First of all , National Taiwan University is the best university in Taiwan and one of the top universities
in the world. According to the qs university ranking as of 2017 , NTU is in 68th place out of all
university in the world.This is an outstanding achievement for NTU which makes me want to study in
such a prestigious university. I also chose this university because of its complete curriculum, good
facilities, experienced reputable lecturers not only from Taiwan, but also from other developed
countries. The fact that students in this university also come from various countries gives an
International atmosphere and diversity of culture in NTU. NTU also has a lot of network and
connection with many company which could help us apply for a job and internship
easily.Thus,strengthening my desire to choose National Taiwan University as my destination for
undergraduate study.

Why do I choose chemical engineering as my undergraduate study

Engineering is nowadays the field that solves the most impactful of our problems in the world, like
creating clean energy or detecting cancer. Engineers are constantly changing the world with
inventions and solutions that affect everyone's lives. Therefore, I decided to pick engineering, especially
chemical engineering as my major undergraduate study. The reasons why I decided to pick chemical
engineering as my major program in NTU are because of the career choice, the impact of chemical
engineering in our lives, the employment rate, and the skills that we got from this chemical engineering.
We could acquire a wide variety of skills if we study chemical engineering.Chemical engineers have
technical knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, engineering, materials science and information
technology. However, they also know about economics, management, safety and the environment. The
tools used include sophisticated scientific experiments, the latest developments in computing, and
large-scale pilot plants.

As we know, chemical engineers are nowadays highly employable. Chemical engineers are employed
across a wide range of businesses by both large and small companies. Chemical engineering remains
one of the best-paying professions in the UK with salaries rising by 30% over the last decade. Surveys
show that chemical engineers earn more, on average, than other types of engineer and more than pure
scientists.

Chemical engineering also offers many exciting career choices. Chemical engineers have many career
opportunities. A graduate might perform groundbreaking scientific research, work as a field engineer, or
occupy a senior management position. Graduates employed by multinational companies often travel all
over the world.

Last but certainly not least, chemical engineering has a big impact in human lives. Chemical engineers
work to improve the quality of people's lives. Most items used by people everyday have needed
chemical engineers to produce them. Chemical engineers are helping to end starvation, disease and
poverty. They are working to save the environment by developing alternative technologies to combat
acid rain, lead pollution and the greenhouse effect.

Detailed study plan

I will pursue my Bachelor degree in Finance in National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan. The The
normal length of study period is about 48 months or about 4 years. The time arrangement of the
undergraduate program in Finance is listed as follow :

First Year (2018 – 2019)

As a new student, I would like to join the orientation program for new students in order to learn more
about the university and campus. I would like to focus and put most effort of my first year on studying
core courses and Chinese language program in order to increase my ability to adapt with Taiwan’s
condition.In this first year, I would like to adapt with the people and culture there. Thus, making many
new friends in the process I will also attend a lot of seminars and workshops ,especially the ones that are
related to my major. As I had a lot of experience in some organizations in both my junior high school
and senior high school, I also want to join the student council and the student organizations there .

Second Year (2019 – 2020)

In my second year of study, I will continue my Chinese learning program to boost my Chinese language.
I also want to become lecturer assistant for first year students. In this way, I can learn a lot of new
knowledge that I haven’t had in my first year study and
experience how it is like to teach others. I also want to participate in some internal or external campus
competition, especially which related to my major in order to contribute to NTU. At this year , I wanted
to push myself and join a lot of committee and organization so I can get more experience working with
others in an organization.The goal for me this year is to terminate the culture shock and language barrier
completely.

Third Year (2020 – 2021)

My third year study will not have a big difference with the second year one. I want to attend seminars
particularly about finance and management and want to be a lecturer assistant for first or second year
student. As the third year student, I want to explore more about the working world by participating on
campus project internally or join activities, such an internships and mogs, with several companies. I will
try to apply for internship in companies in Taiwan so that I
could get the experience from working in a company.

Fourth Year (2021 – 2022)

In the fourth year of my study, I want to focus more on my study in order to put much attention on my
graduation, so I can graduate on time. I want to participate more on campus project or maybe research,
especially government project, to gain more experience about the working world. My goal for this year
is to graduate on time with a flying colours and prepare myself for a full time job after I graduate from
university.
Future Plans

After graduation , I plan to have a job experience in a company in Taiwan in order to have a working
experience and gain connection to clients and working peers in the future.After 1-2 years, I would like
to continue pursuing my masters degree in the related fields.
