MUHAMMAD USMAN TAHIR [STUDY PLAN]

Study Plan in China

A fascination for Science & Technology and keen interest in the ever-growing world of technology
motivated me to take up engineering. Today, networking of every kind is fuelling the momentum
of change and in the process further transforming the way we live, work and play. The interplay
and interconnections between various devices and systems is creating a world of surprises. To stay
ahead in the fast changing world requires the ability to look beyond the present. This has motivated
me to pursue a Master's course in Electrical Engineering at your school. China, being one of the
most progressive nations of the world that utilize the engineering hypothesis in a way that helps to
raise living standards and makes lives better, is my first choice to get advancement towards my
aim. I believe that studying and learning in China would benefit me and my nation to grow stronger
and powerful.

I graduated from the Sukkur Institute of Business Administration (SIBA) Sukkur, Sindh, Pakistan
as an Electrical Engineer with specialization in Electronics by May 2016. Sukkur IBA is duly
recognized from Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and Higher Education Commission (HEC).
I have secured CGPA 3.55(88.09%) out of 4 and awarded with silver medal due to outstanding
academic performance. Also I have a thirst of research and my one paper is published in
International Conference on Computing and Mathematical Sciences (ICCMS) 2017, entitled as
pervasive electricity distribution system.

Currently, I have been working as a Research Associate in Sukkur IBA since last three months. I
am doing research on Space Vector Modulation (SVM) Technique for PWM inverters to improve
its efficiency, total harmonic distortion (THD) and power factor, and also implementing in
MATLAB. I have worked as a trainee engineer for 7 months from June 01, 2016 to January 04,
2017 in National Transmission and Dispatch Company Limited (NTDCL) Grid Station
(220KV/132KV), on the protection of electrical equipment, protection and testing of auto
transformer, current transformer, potential transformer, relays and circuit breakers, SCADA and
PLCs. Moreover, I examined single and three line AC schematics. I have also served Northern
Power Generation Company Limited (NPGCL) in the GENCO III Thermal Power Station
(1350MW) Muzaffargarh, in the departments of Instrumentation as an internee for 6 weeks in the
months of June-August 2015 where I practically analyzed about the operating principle of boiler,
turbine and generator, and excitation system.

Apart from academics, I have served the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
Student Branch Sukkur IBA as Chairman from the period of January 2015 to December 2015.
Through its workshops/seminars and publications like “IEEE Spectrum” it has exposed me a lot
of emerging technologies in the field of electrical engineering. Throughout this tenure, I have been
the Chief Organizer in arranging various workshops, competitions, and seminars at my university.
The designation provided to me by IEEE has taught me various skills and leadership qualities that
would help me at my graduate level and my career ahead.

MUHAMMAD USMAN TAHIR [STUDY PLAN]

The field of electrical engineering has always engrossed me. My interest started developing in the
early stage of my life, when I studied applications that span the very small, such as nanotechnology
and implanted biomedical devices, to the very large, such as the exploration of outer space and
study of remote stars, Electrical Engineering has been and continues to be a corner stone in every
new technical development in our life. Electrical Engineering includes power generation,
transmission and distribution, control, communication systems, electronics, instrumentation,
robotics, artificial intelligence and many others. North China Electric Power University (NCEPU)
has attached great importance of scientific research and has shown great advantages in the research
of basic sciences. You have the best research facilities, the latest equipment and the dynamic
curriculum, which will enable me to understand and apply modern techniques to meet different
needs. Your faculty does not only teach what is known but actively contributes to the growth of
new knowledge. Education at your institute will equip me to keep pace with the technological
revolution. I will be well prepared to evolve with the demands of change.

Beijing, being the capital of the People's Republic of China, is one of the six ancient cities in north
China and also the nation's political, economic, cultural center and transportation hub. It is always
been my dream to study at a place like this where I can not only study, but can also see the
practically implemented knowledge on various things around me. Getting a Master’s degree from
the NCEPU is not just my aim, but I endeavor to achieve the knowledge that could help me
transform my theoretical knowledge into practical analysis through the graduate program that I
would be studying at NCEPU.

After graduating from the NCEPU, I intend to serve my country at its best by joining an industry
or a firm that would help in raising the standards of living at my country through technological
developments. I also seek to develop different systems that would ease the people by various
aspects and reduce the tariffs of different systems that are being operated currently. The system
that I have built at my undergraduate level for my final year project also aims to reduce the wastage
of electricity and bring a reduction in energy tariffs by implementing smart energy meters for
electricity distribution that would help in bringing relaxation to people by smartly controlling their
energy usages for their commercial and non-commercial use.

I believe that I am an excellent candidate for the CSC scholarship as I am self-disciplined and
highly motivated to achieve my goals. I have very high expectations of myself and do not accept
failure. I hope that my prospective studies at your prestigious university can solidify my knowledge
and bring into full play my latent intellectual capacities. I know that I can positively represent
Pakistani thought, culture and scholasticism in the China. I also know that upon returning to
Pakistan, I can positively represent the China as a graduate contributor of its higher education
system.
