ACTIVITY 1

1. Describe the background of Rizal’s ancestry that might have contributed to his life and
education.

The Rizal family are one of the wealthiest families during their time. They were considered
privileged, well-educated, and influential. Jose Rizal came from a thirteen-member family
comprising his parents, Francisco Mercado II and Teodora Alonso Realonda, and nine sisters
and one brother. The Mercado-Rizal family had traces of Japanese, Spanish, Malay, and even
Negrito blood aside from Chinese. Jose Rizal's first teacher was his mother, who taught him
how to read and pray and who had encouraged him to write poetry. In later times, private
tutors taught the young Rizal Spanish and Latin before they sent him to a private school in
Biñan. Rizal's ancestors have been famous since the beginnmg of his life. It is very common
for them to attend
a prestigious school in  Biñan and excel in Latin and Spanish, especially Jose Rizal, who was
recognized for his great potential at a young age.

2. Compare the experiences of Rizal as a student in Ateneo Municipal, UST, Madrid.

Rizal, who has been a genius since he was a kid, has always been willing to learn new things.
His first university, Ateneo, was where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree to express his
passion for the arts and letters. He was initially behind in class relative to his peers, but
thanks to his dedication to his studies, he was dubbed the Emperor for being the most
outstanding individual in just a month and graduated with the highest distinction. He then
went to UST to study medicine for his mother, but he did not participate as much in Ateneo.
Не traveled and studied French, English, and German at the Ateneo de Madrid. Rizal was
considered to be a great student who, considering the challenges he faced, he never gave
up until he finished.

3. Who were the importance person that influenced Rizal in his intellectual pursuits?
Paciano, Rizal's brother, was a significant influence on his intellectual pursuits. He mentored
Rizal throughout his life, and Rizal listened to him as if he were his second parent. His tutors
had
influenced his education as well, but Leon Monroy was someone who really educated him
and
sharpened his skills in Basic Latin, reading, and uniting. Rizal's mother, Dona Teodora
Alonso,
was the most influential person in his academic pursuits among all the people who had
been with
him; through her guidance, Rizal developed his passion for all types and the beautiful
nature that surrounded them. As she drew his attention to the world around him.

4. What were Rizal’s activities in Dapitan and their impacts?

For 3 years there following Rizal’s detention, assisting people and treating their ailments,
which is where he met his wife Josephine
Bracken. During his stay, he built a number of projects, including schools, hospitals, a water
irrigation system, and the installation of lampposts in every' corner. Rizal's activities in
Dapitan
made him more active in his field, allowing him to support more people and improve
Dapitan's
situation. Rizal did not neglect his career in medicine and his artistic pursuits in painting,
sculpture, sketching, and writing poetry. The large relief map of Mindanao throughout the
plaza,
which he uses in teaching Geography, is one project that has had an influence that is still in
use
nowadays.

5. How would you assess Rizal's objection to the revolution?

Rizal's opposition to the revolution was clearly to do the right thing, resulting in negotiation
rather than a war between the Spaniards and Filipinos. As to what Rizal intends to really do
first
is to educate his countrymen, the Indios, so that they can learn and understand what is
going on,
and then he wants the Filipinos to come together and redeem the land in a peaceful and
orderly
ways. His best weapons were his knowledge and skills, not the sharpest blades and
weapons.
