Principles of artistic composition


Composition - It is the act of composing or organizing the elements of art. Art composition takes
place according to aesthetic principles beautiful works, created by the artist.
1. Proportion- It is the comparative relationship of the parts of or composition to each other as a
whole.
Scale- it I the relative sizes of an object compared with others of its kind.

It is wholeness of the work of art and it aims to achieve unity.

3. Balance - It is a work when its visual or actual weights or masses (including colors) are distributed in
such a way that they achieve harmony. It is also five feeling of stability and rest.
 2 types of balance

 Formal balance
 Informal balance/ Asymmetrical
Informal balance seems more realistic than formal balance because it is closer to what
appears in nature. Rather than consisting of equal halves or sides, it relies on the artistic
arrangement of objects to appear balanced. Informal balance, or asymmetry, involves
a balance of unlike objects.

4. Rhythm - refers to the arrangement of shapes in a way, which creates an underlying beat.
5. Emphasis- starting with Impression it is also a principles on which your attention is drawn towards
the object
