    ELIAS

    Among all the characters featured in Dr. Jose Rizal's novel Noli Me
    Tangere, I choose Elias because he represents the common Filipino who
    is not only aware of the atrocities committed against his countrymen, but
    also desires to free them from their oppressors. Elias was a courageous
    and loyal man. His loyalty belongs to Crisostomo and to the country. In
    his final moment he devoted his life in protecting Crisostomo as he
    believed that Crisostomo was the Filipino people's only hope to escape
    poverty.
