Tarutung Love Cross

The Tarutung Love Cross is one of the spiritual tourism objects in North Sumatra which is very well
known in Indonesia and even in the world. The Tarutung Love Cross is located in Situngkir Village,
Simorangkir Julu, Tarutung City, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The Love Cross is a monument in the form
of a cross. with a large size and towering. The shape is also like the shape of most crosses.
The Cross of Love was built in October 1933 and is dedicated to commemorating the services of
Christian missionary from Germany, Ingwer Ludwig Nommensen. When spreading Christianity in
Tapanuli, Nommensen was about to be killed by the natives there but always failed. Nommensen's efforts
were not in vain because many local people eventually converted to Christianity and abandoned their old
belief, namely animism.
At the location of the Cross Love there is a white statue of Nommensen. In this place Nommensen first
preached and he faced Rura Silindung below him. In addition, at the location of the Cross of Love there
are many small rooms specifically for Christian prayer. Inside the prayer room there is a picture of Jesus
Christ and a Bible. In the room we can pray as much as we want in a peaceful atmosphere. At the location
of the Cross of Love, there are seats and huts made of ceramic. From here we can be satisfied to see the
beautiful view of Tarutung City from a height. The atmosphere around the Cross Love is also cool and
still beautiful. Many pine trees surround the location of the Cross of Love, making the air around it still
fresh and natural. There are also many Christian statues and gravestones that can be used as photo spots.
Before heading to the location of the Cross Love which is on the hill, visitors can hunt and keep the
typical souvenirs of the Cross of Love which are located below, namely at the Tourism Market. Many
souvenirs and souvenirs are sold here, ranging from jackets, t-shirts, bracelets, necklaces, scarves and
others. The distinctive feature of each souvenir is the inscription of the Tarutung Cross Love.
Towards the location of the Cross of Love at the top of the hill, visitors will climb thousands of steps.
There are two paths provided, namely a path for parents and a path for young people. During the trip to
the location, you will pass shady pine trees. You will pass the 10 Commandments writing board that is
installed on the pine tree. Apart from the 10 Commandments of God, there are also many Bible verses
that you will pass before reaching the Cross Love. If you are tired, you can also arrange on the benches
that are on the way to the top.
For vehicle parking locations, there is no need to worry. A large parking area for two and four-wheeled
vehicles provide here. Entering the cross love area, you will only be charged 4,000 rupiah per person.
Because of the beauty and nuances of its religion, the Cross Love become tourist attraction in North
