GET PROMOTED
Some people are not interested in getting more work or a promotion in their job. But,
for those who learn to do what is right, we are going to be promoted by God in life, in
many aspects of our lives. Would you like to get promoted by God?

In this study we are going to dig deep into four sections for which I would like you to
be prepared.

The rst one is about examples of promoted individuals in the Bible. What happened
to them? We will also look at promoted groups, and insights of those examples. After
that, is application of it to your life.

# 1 PROMOTED INDIVIDUALS

Example I

The rst person that I want to talk about is Noah. Do you know what exactly Noah
was? He was a decent family man. How many decent men are today out there? They
don't see the importance of being decent family men. It's incredible. Sometimes, it
looks like an old-fashioned style to be decent today. Have you noticed that? It's like
guys have to be some sort of weird individuals. Whether it's jumping from an airplane
or whatever kind of crazy stu , those are the things for which the world will consider
somebody as great.

Noah was a decent family man. We read his story in Genesis chapters 5 and 6. Do
you know what happened to him for being a decent family man? <<He was
transformed into a hero of humanity>>. He was promoted by the good Lord.

v

Example II

The second example is Abraham. You'll nd part of his story in Genesis chapter 12.
What happened to Abraham? He was a man who was ready to listen to God and
obey Him. Again, you are thinking of becoming special and be like, “I got to do
something. I will develop my muscles and get a degree.” Those are amazing goals
that we sometimes set for ourselves. But look at the father of faith. What did he
accomplish to become father of faith? Abraham was obedient in listening to God and
obeying Him.

Abraham was promoted as well to become a father of faith. Do you listen to God?
More importantly, though, are you obeying God? Those two things – listening and
obeying – are very important.

Example III

Third example is about Ruth. We read her story in the book of Ruth in the Old
Testament. Ruth became the great grandmother of King David. She became a widow
in her early age. Do you know what she did? Her story is really special. Ruth was
loyal to her mother-in-law, Naomi, and she was not precisely as a sweet pie. No, the
mother-in-law was a little bit rough, but Ruth contrarily decided to do the right thing.
How hard is to do the right thing? Do you want to be promoted by God to a new
level? <<Be loyal to God and do the right thing>>.

Be a decent family man, listen to and obey God, do the right thing as this loyal
daughter-in-law did. As a result of her loyalty, she got a phenomenal husband. She
was respected as such and became the great grandmother of King David. Beautiful.
Just by doing the right thing. This is really exciting.

vi
fi
Example IV

Next example is Rahab. This example is just weird. And I know it's weird because it
doesn't sound too nice precisely due to the characteristics of this woman. She was
not Hebrew. Actually, she was part of the story about conquering of the Promised
Land led by Joshua as we read in the book of Joshua chapter 2 and 6. Rahab was a
prostitute. But she heard about the Israelites conquering the land. And then she had
fear of God. As soon as she had faith, she said, “My life is so messed up, but these
Israelites are conquering. God, the real God is with them. They're going to win. No, I
better stop doing what is wrong and I'm going to the right thing because I fear God
and I have faith in Him.”

So Rahab got a deal with the spies. And later the Israelites saved her family from the
disaster. A prostitute. You might be wondering whether God can grant miracles to
people today. Aren’t you sure about that? Of course, He can. That's His uniqueness.
He can grant us whatever by faith and doing what is right. Be decent, listen, obey
Him, and change, stop doing what is wrong and do what is right.

Example V

Next example, Moses. Moses’ story is so such a coolest narration. It’s too long to try
condensing this quickly. We read his story in the book of Exodus where we learn how
he became the deliverer of Israelites and a prophet. Moses was a freedom ghter.

You easily can imagine that during those days, physical exercise was not optional.
You needed it to be in shape if you want it to be a king. Knowledge and skills in how
to use the sword, and all that was essential. So Moses quite knew that he was a
Hebrew, but he was ready to do his job. Guess what happened? One day he found
an Egyptian beating up a Hebrew and then he got mad. He was under the impression
that he was the deliverer. He went and killed the Egyptian. What an arrogant murder
he was, but after many years and situations, Moses changed. Then he was ready.

vii
fi
Anyone can change. God can promote anybody, anywhere, and whatever he/she is,
even a prostitute can be used by God. Look at Rahab.

Example VI

Let’s now look at David. Let me tell you, “David is a great example.” I know some
people love David very, very much. But do you know what exactly was he? He was
just an obedient son. All his siblings went to war doing this and that for the army. But
then his father says, “Son, I need help. There is my ock and nobody can take care of
because all your brothers are gone. I want you to go and do the job.” David replied,
“Okay dad.” He comes back to the house and the father says, “Son, during the night
it’s dangerous for the sheep to be there, I want you to go and check them out again,
go and do your job. Protect the sheep.” David willingly said, “Okay dad.” “Son, I need
you to do this and that for me. Stay with me, please.” David replied, “Okay dad.”
That's David. He learned to obey. Wow. What a bright man he was. As a result of his
obedient heart, the father told him about God and he learnt to learn. He became
teachable in obedience. He got promoted to become the king of Israel because he
was an obedient son. What a promotion!

I just love this story! I encourage all parents that are raising kids to do something for
your kids. Listen, I know you want to take them to the best, the better possible
school and colleges so they can learn stu , gain knowledge and all that. It really
sounds great. But there is one important thing. << If you can teach your kid to be
obedient, you prepare them on the right track >>

Example VII

Next example, Paul. Paul was not willing to stop persecuting the church. He thought
the church was evil. So he went on with his objective, even participating in the death
of the rst martyr, Stephen. Paul was determined to destroy the church.

viii
fi
ff
fl
Paul met Jesus on day. Paul was wrong. Despite his wrongdoing, however, he was
honest to his desires. How many people do you know they were doing the wrong
thing about their spiritual walk?

Those people were just going through this particular religion. They might have
attached themselves to this particular ideology or whatever. Maybe you were that
person who was wrong. They were wrong. Paul was wrong. However, in all those
cases, when a person is honest, there is a chance because God honors honesty
in people. Do you know what the Lord did to Paul? The Lord said, “I want to use
Paul.” We read the story of transformation of Paul in the book of Acts chapter 9. And
he later became what? Apostle, a church planter, the writer of majority of the
Christian doctrine. From being a persecutor, God promoted Paul. God can do
miracles to whomever, wherever, and whenever.

# 2 PROMOTED GROUPS

Example I

The rst promoted group I want to share with you is Gideon's army. The story of the
group is found in the book of Judges chapter 7.

This is the story of a guy who was called by God to ful ll the plan of God for the
people of Israel. And the Lord said to him, “32,000 men is way too many people.
They are going to say that they were the ones who saved Israelites. Tell them to go.
Just keep few people than that, okay?” The number went down to 10,000 but the
Lord said they are still too many. And the Lord wanted only 300 instead of 10,000
men.

ix
fi
fi
They became 300 just by the way that they were drinking water on the river, paying
attention. Those who were paying attention became promoted. And 100 of those
went with Gideon to ght. When he was ghting whatever kind of battle he won. The
group got promoted, because it was selected. You need to see the di erence. There
are a lot of people that have been called, but not everyone has been selected.

Example II

The next example is David's army. 1 Samuel 22, verse 2, describes the
characteristics of David's army. And you will laugh when you read the Scripture
because it says that those guys were troubled in debt and they were all kinds of
people.

This is the same to the variety that we have at Victory Church. All kinds of people
from di erent backgrounds and cultures. The other day somebody asked me, “Gian,
the church for which you are the pastor, are they Americans or immigrants?” I replied,
“They are Americans, I'm an immigrant, but I'm American citizen.” He further asked,
“Alright. But what about the discrimination in your church?” I said, “Buddy, their
pastor is from Guatemala.” He said yes, you're right. I didn't think of it. Our church
has all kinds of people. And David's army was like that too. It consisted all kinds of
people, they were troubled, in debt. And they became his army. They got promoted.
They just believed in God and said, “Yeah, we can do this together.” Isn't it beautiful?

Example III

Furthermore, the best example that I can give you of promoted groups is the
disciples of the Lord Jesus. You know what? No one of them came from famous
families. No one. They came from di erent backgrounds, di erent walks of life.

x
ff
fi
ff
fi
ff
ff
The group included shermen and others in business. Some of them were kind of
government workers, contractors, and tax collectors. Do you see that? You can nd
that in the four Gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John. There you can nd the
story: the variety of these guys and how they became the disciples that changed the
whole history of the world. They got promoted by God.

And you are wondering, “Is it possible that God can help me with all my problems? Is
it possible that the Lord can provide what I need? Is it possible that the Lord can do
something for my family? Is it possible that the Lord can transform my
circumstances?” The answer is: YES. Yes, He can do that!

# 3 INSIGHTS OF THE EXAMPLES

What is the rst thing that we see in these examples? When the Lord has a plan, the
plan is going to come through no matter the circumstances. The Lord wanted to save
humanity. So He chose Noah, correct? It’s going to happen.

The Lord has a plan that includes you. Maybe you are wondering, “Me? Really?” Yes,
everybody. Lord has plans not only for pastors but for each one of us. He has a plan
that includes you. He has a plan and it's a divine plan. And this includes everyone
individually. First thing that you have to see in order to be promoted, you have to
understand that there is a plan and it's going to come through.

Second, you have to see the willingness of all these people in serving God. All of
them, Abraham, David, Gideon's army, Rahab, and the disciples. All of them said,
“I'm going to serve God.” Are you serving God? You might say, “I go to church. I sing
to the Lord. I give a little contribution here and there.” That's good.” “Every time I
can, I will do a little thing for the church or somebody else there.” That's good too.
That's a good way to start. But the point is, you need to see yourself as a servant of

xi
fi
fi
fi
fi
God. You should have that willingness to serve God wherever you are, because the
Lord is going to use you. He has a plan, but He wants to see that you are willing to
serve Him. Once the Lord reveals you that plan, you have to stick to, stay consistent
with the plan.

So here's Noah building the Ark. He took over a hundred years. And the kids were
like, “You know the season has started this Sunday and everyone is playing football.”
Noah replied to them, “Well, kids, you are right. But we have work to do. We have to
stick to and be consistent with the plan. Play a little and rest, but then come back to
work.”

All the examples given, you will see each one stood rmly and was consistent with
the plan. Whatever plan the Lord is giving you, you must be willing to serve. You
must stick to the plan and avoid distractions. You know people cannot be
promoted while moving from one place to the other. It is impossible. Imagine moving
a tree or ower from one place to another. You cannot be just moving the plant from
here to here. You don’t like it here and you take it somewhere else. Remove the tree
again and again. No, there is no way the tree is going to be pretty ever. You have to
stick to the plan where the Lord is planting. You have to let the roots grow and be
fruitful there. Be consistent with the plan. And of course, you have to keep loyal to
God, keep faithful to Him. Is good if you are faithful to the pastor of the church, or
you are faithful to the spouse of yours, or faithful to the company that you work for.
More importantly, you have to be loyal to God. Just to Him. I hope you understand
that. And of course, all of them in those examples, wanted the good for the people.
So now deep down into your heart is what you need to see. Whatever it is, the plan
the Lord has for you, is going to be accomplished. Just embrace that, be willing to
serve, and stick to the plan.

Do you want that plan to take you somewhere? Do you want the good for the
people? What is the main reason why you do things? You need to think about that for

xii
fl
fi
instance, in your home. Why do you do those things? Because you want the good for
the people in your home.

# 4 APPLICATION TO YOUR LIFE

There is nothing impossible to God. I don't know what kind of problems you have. I
have no idea of the challenges you are going through. Maybe they are big problems.
Financial di culties perhaps, your health, I don't know. But there is nothing
impossible to the Lord. He can change everything. Everything. You have to believe
that He is almighty. Look at those examples. Noah, Abraham, David, Rahab, Ruth
David's army, and the disciples. Each one of them had seen the power of God in their
lives. There is nothing impossible to the Lord.

You get it in your mind and your heart. And then you say, there is nothing
impossible to the Lord. He can do it. Now, do you realize that His plans are greater
than what you can think of? So here’s Abraham receiving the news from the Lord.
God talks to Abraham, “Hey buddy, I want you to leave your parents’ home. I want
you to relocate to a place where I'm going to bless you.” Abraham takes Sarah, his
nephew and leaves. He had no idea what that plan was. He had no idea that
thousands of years later, we will be here on earth saying that Abraham is the father of
faith. He had no idea completely.

The plans the Lord has for you are like that. They are greater than what you can think
of. An obedient son can be promoted to king. You just don't know what the Lord can
do in your life and the lives of your children. You don't know what the Lord can do for
your family. You just don't know. His plans are greater than what you can think of. He
can use you exactly where you are.

xiii
ffi
So you probably say, “Okay, I got it. I can be promoted. The Lord can do great things
in my life. All right. I'll do it when I'm ready for this. When I get this, when I have this,
then I will do it.” You are wrong. No, you don't need to be somewhere or somebody
to do God’s plan. Exactly where and who you are, with the resources you have, you
can do it. You can start there because the one who does the job is Him. What are you
waiting for? Just say, “okay, Lord, I'm here. I'm available. Whatever you want me to
do, I'll do it. I believe in your power. You can promote me. You will take me places.
You will do great things. I don't know what those things, but I'm willing. And I want
the best for the people. Yes, I am here and ready.” From there is when you
understand the importance of doing everything to please God, which is the most
di cult challenge for believers.

Not to mention the unbelievers. The unbelievers can't grasp this concept. Look, the
boss is not around. The employees are wasting time. They are sitting on their chairs,
doing nothing. They're scratching their tummies, playing with their phones during
work hours. As soon as they see their supervisor, they become busy. People know
that certain shows are not appropriate but they watch them. They are playing with
apps that are inappropriate, as soon as somebody comes into the house, and that
somebody comes near them…Oops!

Do everything to please God

That's the thing. The best thing you can apply in your life is this: Do everything to
please the Lord. It doesn’t matter if nobody is watching you there. It doesn't matter
when others don't do the right thing. Don’t complain that you are the only one doing
the right thing. There is no any other working? You are the one, and always giving and
serving. What's wrong with other people? They don't even appreciate your work. It
doesn't matter. You do everything to please God. Do everything to please God. Do
you know what that is? Do you want to know what faith is? Faith is doing things,
everything to please the Lord. Any little thing to please God, and you say, “I'm doing
this for the Lord.”

xiv
ffi
Eventually someone will come to you, saying “I would like you to become friends.”
Other day somebody else says, “I would like to hire you to do this and that.” The Lord
will promote you. It's all about Him. Do it to please Him and be patient in the process.

You will need to prove to God that you are serious about serving Him. He will test
you. After being tested God will be pleased and say to you, “You are faithful about
this. Good for you. Three months you have been doing this. That's great son. I love
that my little princess, keep on going.” It will take time. But when you show that
consistent attitude and behavior, the blessings are great.

If you are reading this and you don’t have a good relationship with the Lord, I want to
connect you with Him. Romans chapter 10 verse 9 says clearly, if you openly say
“Jesus is my Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from death you will
be saved”. That would be probably the most important thing that anyone can do with
their life.

So I want to invite you to the pray, reading out loud. Let's say this prayer
wholeheartedly. Let’s talk to the good Lord:

“Dear God, I see that you really bless your people. You can change everything for
anyone. I would like a miracle in my life. I need You. I open my heart to You, Lord. I
confess my sins before You. Please forgive me. I need to change. I want to obey You,
trust You, and serve You forever, my Lord. Starting today, I want to see life in people
exactly as You do. Please help me, Lord.”

Dear friend, it’s on the cross where everything begins. Join me, say with me, “I am
forgiven and saved by faith in Jesus. Therefore, I can also declare my life is going to
be great and blessed.”

15
