Brio literacy tests

Manuela
Brio literacy tests are a literacy skills standardization per class levels
(grades 1-4, 5-6 and 7-8, respectively).
Tested students are expected to be able to read and independently
manage not only their relationship with the test texts, but also with
each item's requirements. The items are conceived based on the
international tests PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy
Study) and PISA (Program for International Student Assessment),
respectively, but do not cover the full range of literacy skills
assessed in the mentioned tests.
To ensure accessibility and easy application of BRIO tests (online
platform, with automatic results), they are limited to one answer
choice evaluation items .
The tests measure the level of performance for three
skill categories :
locating information (accessing and identifying
needed information in the text; locating and
selecting relevant parts of the text)
understanding the text (both literally and by
integrating information and generating inferences)
synthesizing the information in the text (the
premise for evaluation and reflection on the
text)
Literacy tests results
They are presented in the form of the Literacy
Index, a score that can vary from 0 (very weak) to
100 (very competent). The total score reflects the
general level of literacy competence and student's
overall ability to process the text read during the
test. The report also provides scores for the three
literacy components : locating, understanding and
synthesizing information.

Literacy Test Evaluation Report

After passing the literacy test, based on their answers,
students receive a report which describes the level of
their literacy skills compared to the class level chosen
to take the test for. The report is based on BRIO®, the
standardized testing system for accelerating
performance in education.

Reading – a challenge for today's generation

During the on-line learning system caused by the

Covid-19 pandemic, creating a READING CLASS
section on the Google classroom platform, for the 5th
to 7th graders, encouraged reading and led to
enhancing literacy skills.
Posting PDF books facilitated access to exciting books
of the contemporary literature, hard to find.
