In our life, art is a part of us and serves a significant roles that are engraved in one’s
body. An art that represents oneself; the process of making it points their habits and mannerisms
poured into it with delicacy and passion along with the emotions and feelings of its maker.
Concentration, precision, and skills are the basic necessities or fundamentals if you are going to
make an art. However, if what we are talking about is paper, what is the first and initial paper
craft that comes out from your mind? Was it decoupage, or maybe a papier-mâché? How about
card making with matching paper flowers? What about origata and the famous paper craft,
origami?

But foremost, what is origami? Maybe it is indeed widely known to our world for already
a long time but to be precise, it is a technique of paper making introduced to Japan by China
during the early seventh century. This work is made by folding a paper many times until a three-
dimensional shaped object or figure will be formed. Making an origami is a fascinating act that
does not require and limit the age of its participants; it is open for all. It does not have only sole
purpose for fun but also has a huge educational benefits for kids and adults alike.

In this times of pandemic, people tend to be bored easily over simple things because of us
getting in the situation of this endless quarantine; even the gadgets and internet which many
people longed for. However, it also depends to the people themselves; their habits, lifestyle,
personality, status, and needs. Some can tolerate the current predicament but some grew
impatient; already attempted to do various things just to ease their boredom.

Even at the earlier years and centuries, before the modern times and the global crisis has
begun, handicrafts such as crochet, knitting, and embroidery—traditionally practiced by women
and by the elderly—and also origami have turned to be a stress reliever because repetitive
activities that consumes most of someone’s time can be enhanced and to be formed as a new skill
that can stick to their minds. In general, these handicrafts keeps your mind occupied, it improves
certain skills that helps an individual to move and work the things they have to do.

Origami is good for you as it develops eye hand co-ordination, sequencing skills, maths
reasoning, spatial skills, memory, but also patience and attention skills. Origami allows you to
develop fine motor skills and mental concentration. All of this combined stimulates the brain—
especially when both hands are being used at the same time. Not only those but making an
origami also improves your self-esteem when you realize that you are able to create something
with your own hands.
