focuses on the wider picture .
 Mid-Level Managers are those who manage the work of first-line managers.
 First-Line Managers are those who manage the work of non-managerial employees.

WHICH SKILL FOR WHOM?

Top Level Manager skill: These are the highest level of managers within an organization These
managers scan the external environment for opportunities, help develop long-range plans and
make critical decisions that affect the entire organization. So the utmost priority of the skill set for Top-
Level mangers should be the “Conceptual Skill and then Human skills” as they they have to focus on the
wider picture and be diplomatic.

Mid-Level Manager skill:  Their primary role is to oversee front-line managers and report back to top-
level managers about the progress, problems, or needs of the first-line managers. Middle managers
span the distance between production operations and organizational vision. So the skills for Mid level
managers are “Human skills and then conceptual and then technical skills” as they have to interact with
everyone.

Front-Line Manager skill:  The primary responsibility of first-line managers is to coordinate the activities
that have been developed by the middle managers. These managers are responsible for supervising
non-managerial employees who are engaged in the tasks and activities developed by middle managers.
So the skills they need are “technical then human skills” as they are managing technical area of given
departments and they have to interact with them.
