Funtions, Roles, and Skills


of a Manager
Definition of terms
Managers – an individual engaged in
management activities such as supervising,
sustaining, upholding, and assuring
responsibilities for the work of others in his\her
work group, team, department,on the
organization in general.
Managerial Roles – the various roles played by
manager, such as interpersonal,inforamational,
and decision-making roles.
Managerial Skills – the various skill that
managers must posses,such as conceptual
human and technical skills.
Leader- the one who possesses good leadership qualities
or a combination of a good moral character,strong
professional will, humility that builds enduring
greatness,and commands loyalty and respect among
subordinates.
Liaison – one is capable maintaining unity of action in an
organization.
Figurehead – one who has nominal leadership but
without real power ,as this power will possesses only by
the companys president or owner.
Spokesperson- one who speaks in the name or in behalf
of another; as in behalf of the company president or
owner.
Managerial Level-this organization have three
levels of management with thier respective
management;
Top- level Managers. The general or strategic managers
who can focus on long-term organizational concerns
and emphasize the organizations stability,
development, progress and overall efficiency and
effectiveness.example of organization they are
concerned; Chief executive officers (CEOs), Chief
operating officers (COOs), Presidents ,and Vice-
Presidents.
Middle level Managers- are the tactical managers
incharge og the organization s middle level department.
They formulate specific objectives and activities based on
the strategic or general goals and objectives developed
by Top- level managers. their role is to act as go- between
higher and lower levels of the organization. they are more
aware of the companys problem compared to the higher
level because of their contacts with customers, frontline
managers and other subordinates.
Frontline or Lower – level Managers (operational
managers)- responsible for supervising the organizations
day-to-day activities;bridges between managemenr and
non management employees.they are controoled by top-
and middle-level managers to follow orders and support
of the organizations major strategy.

Managerial skills- are clasified as conceptual,
human ,and technical.
Conceptual skills – enable managers to think of
possible solutions to complex problems. They
developed a holistic view of their organization and
its relation to the wider external environment
sorounding it.
Human skills –
communicating,leading,inspiring,and motivating
them become easy with with the help of human
skills. Dealing with both people and in the
organizations internal and external environment.
Technical skills – this is very important for
managers for them to perform their task with
proficiency with the use of their expertise.
