PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

PEO1: To enable graduates to purse research, or have a successful career in academia or


industries associated with electronics and Communication Engineering, or as
entrepreneurs
PEO2: To provide students with strong foundational concepts and also advanced techniques
and tools in order to enable them to build solutions or systems of varying complexity
PEO3: To prepare students to critically analyze existing literature in an area of specialization
and ethically develop innovative and research oriented methodologies to solve the
problems identified.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs)

PSO1: The ability to analyze, design and implement application specific systems for
complex engineering problems, pertaining to analog and digital domains like,
electronics, communications, signal processing, robotics & automation applications,
by applying the knowledge of basic sciences, engineering mathematics and
engineering fundamentals.
PSO2: Excellent compliance to function in multi-disciplinary environment, exhibiting good
interpersonal and leadership skills with a high degree of professionalism.
PSO3: The ability to adapt to sophistications in latest embedded, VLSI, networking, tools
and technology, with an understanding of societal and ecological issues, adhering to
ethical engineering practice.

UNIT I BIO POTENTIAL GENERATION AND ELECTRODES TYPES


Origin of bio potential and its propagation. Types of electrodes - surface, needle and
micro electrodes and their equivalent circuits. Recording problems - measurement
with two electrodes
UNIT II BIOSIGNAL CHARACTERISTICS & ELECTRODECONFIGURATIONS
Biosignals characteristics – frequency and amplitude ranges. ECG – Einthoven’s
triangle, standard 12 lead system. EEG – 10-20 electrode system, unipolar, bipolar and
average mode. EMG– unipolar and bipolar mode.
UNIT III SIGNAL CONDITIONING CIRCUITS
Need for bio-amplifier - differential bio-amplifier, Impedance matching circuit,
isolation amplifiers, Power line interference, Right leg driven ECG amplifier, Band
pass filtering
UNIT IV MEASUREMENT OF NON-ELECTRICALPARAMETERS
Temperature, respiration rate and pulse rate measurements. Blood Pressure: indirect
methods - Auscultatory method, direct methods: electronic manometer, Systolic,
diastolic pressure, Blood flow and cardiac output measurement: Indicator dilution, and
dye dilution method, ultrasound blood flow measurement.
UNIT V BIO-CHEMICAL MEASUREMENT
Blood gas analyzers and Non-Invasive monitoring, colorimeter, Sodium Potassium
Analyser, spectrophotometer, blood cell counter, auto analyzer (simplified schematic
description).

• To have a knowledge about basics of Electronic circuit
