Evolution Climate + Flight Expansion

Without Removing Cards from the Draw Deck

by Don Clarke - Jun 10, 2019

I hereby present an unofficial, simple system for mixing all Flight traits with all Climate traits
without having to remove any cards. It works really nicely and we always play this way now
with the cards permanently mixed.

Dealing the extra card per player (5 instead of 4) counterbalances the dilution of traits that
would otherwise occur when mixing the 177 Evolution traits with the 34 Flight traits, deals with
the fact that the draw deck is larger, and provides another interesting decision point during
Phase 2: Select Food Cards.

The following are the only rule changes necessary:

SETUP
Shuffle together all Flight and Climate trait cards. Then:

2 players: remove 105 cards
3 players: remove 66 cards
4 players: remove 33 cards
5 & 6 players: remove zero cards

PHASE 1: DEAL CARDS

Deal 5 cards to each player, plus 1 card for each species they have.

PHASE 2: SELECT FOOD CARDS

You must place a Climate trait card onto the Watering Hole if possible. If you have none
(unlikely), you must reveal at least the bottom-right corner of your cards to your opponents to
prove it, and you must then choose any card in your hand to place onto the Watering Hole.

After placing a Food Card on the Watering Hole, every player discards one card from their
hand.
