“The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living – Socrates”

Simple yet meaningful – this is the response that most people will say
when asked about what kind of lives they yearn for. It is truly inevitable that at
some point in our lives, we find ourselves asking if we have lived the way we
want to and whether or not we have been completely satisfied by our ways of
living. If we are to once again read the aforementioned quotation, it is likely that
we are to ponder upon the dilemma on how to know the purpose of our lives and
on determining if our individual lives are worth living. Truth be told, knowing the
answers to these bewildering questions is definitely not a walk in the park as it
requires a considerable amount of time to assess the entirety of our lives.
Socrates, in his own mind-awakening way, is persuading us to take a brief hiatus
and try to explore for the reason behind our very existence, and evaluate the
actions we have done. Such motivating adage about life should never be
disregarded but rather acknowledged due to a plethora of great lessons that we
could acquire from it. To elucidate, having a moment of reflection allows us to
realize the shortcomings we have committed in the past to prevent the chain of it
from repeating all over again. Moreover, it gives us various ways to fix what we
have broken and start anew. If we are to deny ourselves of the chance in
assessing our lives, we could also be losing the opportunity to contemplate upon
previous events that left an impact on us, and we would not be provided the
chance to transcend into beings of great purpose. Albeit we are not perfect and
unblemished, we each have the capacity within us to rise above the challenges
that may come our way and hopefully become the best versions of ourselves
living an examined and commendable life.
