Assignment: CTSS Lesson 3 - Metacognition

Life Goal - My goal in life is to become a registered pediatric nurse.

Strategy #1 -
a. What is the strategy? Plan and organize
b. How will I use it to reach my goal? I will plan small goals to reach my larger goal of becoming
a registered pediatric nurse. I will organize the courses I need to take in high school in order to
get into a good university nursing program. I will organize my time so I can make studying a
priority and focus on my ultimate goal.
c. How can I use this strategy in another area of my life? I can use this strategy to study for
final exams. I can use this strategy in other areas of my life such as making small goals to reach
when I have a big project or exam. I can manage my time to study a bit each day instead of
studying for many hours the day before the exam or staying up too late to finish a project.

Strategy #2 -
a. What is the strategy? Transfer and use cognates
b. How will I use it to reach my goal? The medical field requires knowledge of a lot of Latin
vocabulary. I can use my native language to find cognates in Latin that will help me to
remember the new terms.
c. How can I use this strategy in another area of my life? This strategy will be helpful in
science courses. Much of the scientific vocabulary, including the scientific nomenclature of
species, is in Latin. I can use the strategy of finding cognates in my native language to help me
learn science vocabulary.

Strategy #3 -
a. What is the strategy? Taking notes
b. How will I use it to reach my goal? If I want to serve my patients to the best of my abilities, I
need to know them well. Taking notes on their personal and medical histories will enable me to
be the best, most attentive nurse.
c. How can I use this strategy in another area of my life? I can use this strategy to help my
mother when she goes shopping. By taking notes and creating a list of what needs to be
purchased when my mom goes shopping, she will save time and energy.
