DETAILED GUIDELINES FOR GROUP PROJECT & PRESENTATION

LECTURER: Assoc. Prof. Dr Ho Thi Thu Hoa

Brief Assignment

Required:

1. Describe transport infrastructure of a given province/city for available modes of


transport).

2. Suggest 3 options for multimodal transport operation of a shipment (LCL or FCL)


to and from a given province/city from/to Europe/America/Intra-Asia. (note: which
specific country is flexible depending on export goods and import goods between this
province and international markets).

3. Evaluate the impact of Covid-19 to Vietnam’s logistics industry and suggest at


least 3 solutions for further improvement.

Detailed guidelines

1. Describe transport infrastructure of a given province/city for available


modes of transport).

- Find available modes of transport in a given province/city: road, rail, maritime,


inland waterway, air

- Describe the current situation of infrastructure of those modes of transport in a


given province/city.

- Use the updated data from official sources and use figures and tables to illustrate
data.

2. Suggest 3 options for multimodal transport operation of a shipment (LCL or


FCL) to and from a given province/city from/to Europe/America/Intra-Asia.
(note: which specific country is flexible depending on export goods and import
goods between this province and international markets).

3. Evaluate the impact of Covid-19 to Vietnam’s logistics industry and suggest


at least 3 solutions for further improvement.

- Find important impacts of Covid-19 to Vietnam’s logistics industry, especially to


transport both at an international and domestic scale.

- Suggest at least 3 solutions for further improvement and evaluation the feasibility of
those solutions in applying into industry.

- Use the updated data from official sources and use figures and tables to illustrate
data.

Guidelines for task 2:

2.1. Initial info of shipment: cargo, volume, quantity


2.2. Cargo specifications:
- Vegetable, fresh food, frozen food, garment, foot-wares, general cargo,
equipment, rice, etc.
- Cargo specifications: transport requirement, specific service requirement
from customers (RF, dry, RORO, liquid….)
2.3. Select the appropriate service (LCL, FCL, container type, modes of
transport, carriers, routes, etc.)
– Based on detail requirement from customers such as leadtime,
freight, service level, modes of transport, place of receipt, place
of delivery, …. )
– Suggest 3 options for multimodal transport operation of a
shipment (access website or directory of carriers including
airlines, shipping lines for searching updated schedule and info,
eg. Evergreen, Maersk, CMA CGM, Vietnam Airlines

• Route 3
– For each route, recommend relevant carriers (eg. CMA CGM.
VNR….)
2.4. Recommend the best option of modes of transport and relevant
route
Based on cargo specification, customer requirement, benefits and
transport market trend => Recommend the best option of modes of transport
and relevant route according to criterion (leadtime, cost, unit cost, current
situation in the transport market, …).
2.5. Claims (if any) (carrier’s liability: damaged goods, lack of goods,
etc.)
2.6. Conclusion
Note:
- Use updated information with reliable and official sources.
- Access websites of companies, group-platform and send the request
to logistics companies or freight forwarder or relevant sources to
collect real data for task requirements (Play a role of cargo owner or
agents to get information, use professional email and
communication)

- Following the regulations when doing the task (eg. Weight limitation,
VGM, …)

- From District 7, Ho Chi Minh City to Cat Lai port: by road transport
- From Cat Lai port to Southampton port, UK with the transhipment at Port
Kelang, Malaysia (tranship from feeder to mother vessel): by maritime
transport
- From Southampton port, UK to recipient’s warehouse: by road transport.
The whole route can be illustrated as Figure 1:
