MC02 - ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOUR

OBJECTIVES
1. To provide an overview of OB, individual behaviour with specific emphasis on Indian situations.
2. To provide the basic foundation for understanding the group behavior and organizational processes
utilizing theories and concepts.
2. To equip the students with necessary behavioural skills to apply OB concepts in managing human
resources in an organization.
UNIT 1: FOCUS & PURPOSE OF OB
Introduction to Organizational Behavior: Scope & Importance - OB Model - MARS Model - Anchors
of Organizational Behavior - Types of Individual Behavior in Organizations,
UNIT 2: PERCEPTION AND PERSONALITY
Personality – Nature, Determinants, Theories, Personality Assessment. Perception: Factors influencing
perception, The Perceptual Process, Social Identity Theory, Attribution theory, Perceptual Errors.
Values in the Workplace, Values across Cultures, Ethical values and Behavior.
UNIT 3: ATTITUDE AND LEARNING IN ORGANIZATIONS
Attitude, Nature of attitude, components of attitude - Learning in Organizations, Behaviour
Modification: Learning through Reinforcement, Social Learning Theory: Learning by Observing,
Learning through Experience.
UNIT 4: GROUP DYNAMICS
Group Development – 5 Stages Model, Punctuated Equilibrium Model, Group Behaviour Model,
Group Decision Making Techniques - Merits and Demerits, Group Cohesiveness, Group think, Group
Shift – Negotiation skills - Difference between a Group and a Team - Team Effectiveness - Developing
high –performance teams, Self –Directed Work teams, Virtual Teams.
UNIT 5: DYNAMICS IN OB
Organization Culture and Climate - Stress: The Causes of Stress, Individual Difference in Stress,
Managing work-related Stress – Work-life balance – Gender sensitized workplace – Assertiveness
training - Sources of Power, Power tactics - Organizational politics - organizational conflict: reasons
and process, functional and dysfunctional conflict, resolution strategies - organizational change: types
of change, change process - OD intervention.

COURSE OUTCOMES: Students learn necessary behavioural skills to apply OB concepts in managing
human resources in an organization.
