First Assignment: The elements of art and principles of design play important parts in all the decisions you make when
creating art, even if you are unaware of it. You can’t create any work of art without using them. For this first project, you
will be creating a letter design surrounded by zentangles. To begin with, lightly draw the first letter of your first name in
the middle of a piece of 9x12 white paper. Do it in a creative font or style (no basic printing or cursive), but it must have
an interior (like a block or bubble letter). I have a font book you can use to look up different styles if you are interested.
Then fill in the entire area around the letter with zentangles, using thin sharpies (can be done either all in black or with
darker color sharpies). Leave the letter white, and then erase the pencil lines when done. Finally, on the back of the
project, list as many of the elements and principles you can that were used in the creation of this project. Refer to the
posters around the class to identify the elements and principles.
