OVERVIEW OF CURRICULUM AND CURRICULUM INTEGRATION

I. Explain your answers briefly and clearly.

1. What is curriculum?

A curriculum is associated with plans constructed for guiding learners as they progress achieve the
expected knowledge and skills aided by the school system. It is usually represented by objectives and
the actualization of those objectives inside the classroom, as experienced by the learners and recorded
by an observer. It is also seen as a blueprint for a systematic implementation of educational activities.

1. What is an integrated curriculum?

According to Lake, an integrated curriculum is an educational approach that prepares children for
lifelong learning. It includes the combination of subjects, emphasis on projects, sources that go beyond
textbooks, flexible student groupings and schedules and capturing relationships among concepts.
Integrated curriculum is often used synonymously with interdisciplinary curriculum which also
incorporates a variety of learning styles through combinations of academic and technical skills from
several subject areas, helping students better understand and retain information.
