A. Read.

Nina went to the zoo. She first went to a section called Bird Borough. Nina saw
many birds there. There were flamingos, parrots and peacocks. She thought the
peacocks were the most beautiful of all the birds. The colours of the peacocks’
feathers were very striking.
After that, Nina went to Cold City. All the animals were from the polar region.
There were polar bears, penguins and seals. Nina got to pet the cutest seal there.
It was very friendly to Nina.
Later, Nina went to the Savanna Square to see animals from Africa. She saw
many fierce lions and tall giraffes there. The most interesting animals to her were
the zebras. Every zebra had black and white stripes, but the stripes looked different
on each one.
Lastly, Nina went to Marine Metropolitan where animals from the ocean were
kept. There were cute clownfish and cheerful dolphins. Nina even got to see sharks
in the biggest tank there.

B. Write True or False. DSKP: LS3.3.1

Tigers are one of the most beautiful animals in the world. Unfortunately,
they are endangered species. This means their number is low, and they will
probably become extinct.
The reason why is because humans destroy their natural habitat by clearing the
forest to build houses and buildings. Some people hunt tigers for their bones. They
use tigers’ bones to make traditional Asian medicine. Farmers also kill tigers to prevent
them from eating their livestock.
In order to protect tigers, many communities have conservations where tigers
can remain in their natural habitat. Malaysia is one of the countries that put much
effort in protecting this amazing animal. After all, Malayan tigers are Malaysia’s
national animal.

1. Why are tigers endangered? 3. Why do farmers kill tigers?

A There are many tigers. A To make medicine.
B There are only a few tigers left. B To construct buildings.
C They are not at risk of extinction. C To stop them from eating
farm animals.
2. How do humans destroy tigers’
natural habitat? 4. What are tiger conservations for?
A By hunting tigers. A For protecting tigers.
B By building houses. B For preserving forests.
8 29 C By preserving the forest. C For keeping their natural habitat.

Get It Right
1. We use superlative adjectives when we want to compare three or more people, animals or things.
2. We use the word the before the superlative adjective.
3. We add –st or –est at the end of one syllable adjectives to form the superlatives.
Example: She’s the youngest in the family.
4. For adjectives that end in –y, we remove the –y and add i before we add -est to form the superlatives.
Example: Lisa is the happiest girl.
5. Add the word most before the adjectives with more than one syllable.
Example: He is the most handsome boy.
6. Some adjectives are irregular. We cannot add -est to form their superlatives.
Examples: good – better – the best
bad – worse – the worst

A. Complete the dialogue with the superlative form of the words in the brackets.

Mr Suresh: Welcome to the largest large

beautiful (3) fish in the ocean. Long ago, the people who worked in the
Imperial palace in China loved the colour of the Mandarinfish. They made
robes of the same colour. These people are called mandarin. This is how
the Mandarinfish got its name.

like such as For example

This animal is a black-footed ferret. It

is a polecat that is similar to a weasel.
It lives in North American areas
like/such as (1) Canada and
the United States of America. It is a
slender animal with light coloured fur
except for its face, feet and the tip of
its tail.
Everyone thought this animal was
extinct from the world. But, people
found a small group of this animal in 1981. People working to protect wildlife helped to
grow the small group into a bigger one. Now, this animal is classified as an endangered
animal. Endangered animals like/such as (2) blue whales and Asian elephants
are less likely to become extinct than critically endangered animals.
Many organisations are trying to prevent human activities like/such as (3)
farming to maintain this animal’s natural habitat. People are also protecting the ferret’s
source of food which is the prairie dogs. For example (4), scientists developed
a vaccine to make the prairie dogs healthier.

B. Write sentences using the words given.

1. snow leopard – eats – small animals – hares – game birds
The snow leopard sometimes eats small animals such as hares and
game birds.

2. rhinoceroses – herbivores – grass – trees – bushes

Rhinoceroses are herbivores which mean they eat plants like grass, trees
and bushes.

3. wild animals – endangered – turtles – gorillas – tigers

Read the text and answer the questions that follow.

Puan Kala, the Science teacher, is talking to her class about a Science booth.

Next Monday, we will be setting up a booth at the Science fair. We must work together
to decorate the booth beautifully and also have informational displays. Everyone will
be divided into four groups.
Group 1 will find the curtains and table cloths for the booth at the shopping centre.
I will give the measurements for them. It is important to select good material because
we want to avoid any tears on the day of the fair.
Group 2 will make the posters to pin on the walls of the booth. Use your creativity
to make the posters as interesting as possible. I will provide many photographs from
science magazines for you to use. You may also use any other suitable materials.
Group 3 will set up the models for display. There will be a model of the solar
system and another of the life cycle of a butterfly. I have some clay to make the
models. Make sure they are fully dry before you display them. Group 4 will greet the
guests who come to our booth and explain the displays.
We must get everything done by Friday. We have a week until the fair. So, we
will start working today.
