1 Suppose you are the instructor for Biochemistry laboratory course at VIT Bhopal. You will be 10
conducting a practical session where students will get a hands on experience on dealing with
bacteria, virus and hazardous chemicals etc. Narrate the list of primary responsibilities, you are
supposed to discuss with the students before they start working in the laboratory.

2 The coronavirus pandemic (COVID‑19), is an ongoing global pandemic, caused by severe acute 10
respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‑CoV‑2) and the total number of confirmed COVID-
19 cases around the world is now more than 16.7 million (approximately). Suppose you become
in charge of facility designing of a new laboratory which will be dealing with research on
COVID-19. In this scenario, illustrate the special laboratory set up you want to design in order
to conduct research on COVID-19 maintaining the safety advisories.

3 Suppose as a molecular biology and biosafety expert you are hired by a company which will be 10
commercially producing genetically engineered tomato using recombinant DNA (rDNA)
technology. Explain in details the advantages of using rDNA technology in large scale production
of tomatoes. Illustrate the various aspects/guidelines as given by DBT that you would want to
demonstrate to the company before they start producing tomatoes in large scale.

4 Michael was studying amyloid formation by protein/peptides associated with Parkinson disease 10
during his PhD and he invented structure-function relationship of intermediate aggregates and
designed novel inhibitors against amyloid aggregation and thereby invented a new cure for
Parkinson disease. How would he be able to protect his intellectual property? Point out the
various considerations Michael should consider before filing his invention in this particular type
of intellectual property category. Also discuss about the possible difficulties he might encounter
if he does not protect his invention.

5 Suppose you are working for a premier intellectual property consultancy and legal advisory firm 10
which provides high-quality legal and technical solutions for companies in the biotechnology,
biomedical, chemical, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and other knowledge-based industries. Below
are the representative images of the products you have received from different clients and your
clients want to protect their intellectual property (IP). Categorise each of the images based on
their IPs separately and illustrate your explanations.
