Many people around the world have different beliefs and faiths.

Specifically, Jehovah’s

Witnesses have a very particular and strict set of beliefs. Due to what their version of the Bible,

“The New World Translations of the Holy Scriptures ” says, they cannot celebrate any holiday

that praises anybody other than God himself, including Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and

Halloween. Additionally, they do not celebrate religious holidays they believe to have Pagan

Origins such as Christmas, Easter, and Birthdays. They say that Christ did not command his or

any birth; he solely wanted his death to be remembered and cherished. There are many more

things that they are limited in doing because of what their Bible says, however that does not stop

them from having immense faith in their God.

Like most people with faith, Jehovah’s Witnesses lean towards their Bible for guidance in

their everyday life. They have their own version of the Bible and believe it was inspired by God

and is historically correct. On occasions when they have to go to the hospital for a life-

threatening incident, they will often need a blood transfusion to save their life. A downside of

this is in the Bible it is said that it is against God’s will to accept blood. Many physicians already

know the challenge that is to come when they find out about their religious background. At

times, Jehovah’s Witnesses have to refuse it if it is their own plasma from their blood. They

believe that a human must not assist their life with another being’s blood. They associate it by

not finding it any different if it was taken by the mouth or transmitted through the blood vessels.

If they do accept it, they believe they will become at risk of losing their eternal salvation.

Surprisingly, this is not something every practicing Jehovah’s Witness does. Very few do not

agree with the will of God that prohibits the acceptance of blood. To try and save their life, they

will gladly receive the gift of blood.

Equivalently, Jehovah’s Witnesses do not celebrate most holidays or events that honor

others who are not Jesus. Many will ask why they do not celebrate Christmas if that was the day

Jesus was born. In the Bible, it is never stated when the life of Jesus Christ was made, therefore

believing there is no evidence of when Jesus was born. Furthermore, many non-religious people

do not celebrate Christmas for the purpose of Jesus Christ himself. Consequently, throughout

time people have changed, its meaning and created a lot of celebrations that are non-related in

the spiritual aspect. To add more Christmas spirit, people put up lights and decorate trees as

another means of celebration.

Continuing, as mentioned before, there are many things that Jehovah’s witnesses believe

that other religions do not. One of them is that God the Father (whose name is Jehovah), is the

only true God, no one else is superior to him. They pray to him only and believe no one else has

the same powers and salvation as he does. Jesus is God’s first creation and used him to create

everything else in the world. Jesus Christ is inferior to God as well. They see that through the

bible, it is a way for God to talk about his will to humankind and their job is to interpret it

literally (excluding the paragraphs that are symbolic and poetic).

To sum up, Jehovah’s Witnesses have a very special way of interpreting the bible. A few

sticks to it word for word and others are not as strict and bent the rules a little further. The Bible

is something they live by and believe it is something that makes up who they are. They are all a

community of individuals who agree in wanting the same thing which is eternal life with a God

they love so dearly. Their Bible and prayer are the only things that allow them to speak to Him

and ultimately find guidance through that.
