History
The KADERES was established in 1997 with the mission to capacitate the Karagwe (and also Kyerwa)
communities to fight against poverty through the facilitation of socio-economic programs in a
sustainable way. In 2001, KADERES with the support of Hivos facilitated and help the formation of
SACCOS in the districts in order to support the farmer to get fair prices for their produces and the
possibility of storage their products. The harvesting season starts when the world market price for
coffee is low but with the help of the SACCOS the farmers were able to sell the produces for a fair
price because of the possibility that the SACCOS and AMCOs finance and storage the produce and sell
it only to a time when the world market price reaches a fair level again.

Unfortunately, the farmers were not organised enough to sell their products to the world market in
order to reach fair prices. Therefore, KADERES and the board members saw the only chance for the
future development of the districts through the creation of a company which will trade with the
produces in an organised way. In January 2008, KPD was first established as a private company
because of limited shareholders. The initiative took the executive secretary of KADERES as well as the
board members and farmers of the districts. More and more farmers could see the success and
became part of KPD which changed in 2010 to a public limited company. To establish, run and
manage warehouse receipt system that will be benefiting both the Peasants and Small holders,
Company and the Consumers on Commodities mainly on sweet beans, soy beans and maize.
