 An application letter is a formally written one-page letter that


accompanies a resume and other requested documentation in
application for a job or academic program. Application letters are often
synonymous with cover letters, and in addition to describing what materials are
included in the application, an application letter should also take time to
highlight the qualifications that prepare the writer for acceptance into the job or
academic program.

 Contents of an application letter :


 Opening paragraph: State what position or internship you are applying
to; how you learned of the organization or position, and basic information
or qualifications about yourself.

 2nd paragraph: Tell why you are interested in the employer or type of
work the employer does (Simply stating that you are interested does not
tell why, and can sound like a form letter). Demonstrate that you know
enough about the employer or position to relate your background to the
employer or position. Mention specific qualifications which make you a
good fit for the employer's needs. This is an opportunity to explain in more
detail relevant items in your resume. Refer to the fact that your resume is
enclosed. Mention other enclosures if such are required to apply for a
position.
 3rd paragraph: Indicate that you would like the opportunity to interview
for a position or to talk with the employer to learn more about their
opportunities or hiring plans. Restate briefly why you're so passionate
about the opportunity you're applying for. State that you would be glad to
provide the employer with any additional information needed. Thank the
employer for her/his consideration.

 Factual report is a type of text that describe the way things are with reference
to a range of natural, manmade, and social phenomena in our environment.

 A report provides information by stating facts. It often describes a class of


things. Its purpose is to prevent information about something, as it is.

 Factual report has characteristics of generic structure. It starts from general


facts until it spirals down towards a more specific fact. It also has a description
text in the body. It explains the phenomena in utmost details.

 Generic Structure:

1. General Classification: tells what the phenomenon under discussion is

 Significant Lexicogrammatical Features:

 Its social purpose is presenting information about something. They generally


describe an entire class of things, Whether natural or made: Mammals, the
planets, rocks, plants, countries of region, culture, transportation, and so on.

1. Komodo has gray scaly skin, a pointed snout, powerful limbs and a muscular
tail. They use their keen sense of smell to locate decaying animal remains
from several miles away. They also hunt other lizard as well as large
mammals and are sometimes cannibslistic.

2. Do you know what is the largest lizard? This lizard is called komodo. It lives
in the scrub and woodland of a few Indonesian islands.

3. This lizard species is threadened by hunting, loss of prey species and habitat
loss.

4. Komodo dragon is the world’s heaviest lizard, weighing 150 pounds or more.
The largest Komodo ever measured was more than 10 feet (3 meters) long
and weight 366 pounds (166kg) but the average size of komodo in the wild is
about 8 feet (2.5 meters) long and 200 pounds (91kg)

5. The Komodo dragon’s teeth are almost completely covered by its gums.
When it feeds, the gums bleed, creating an ideal culture for virulent bacteria.
The bacteria that live in the Komodo dragon’s saliva causes septicemia, or a
blood poisoning, in its victims. A dragon will bite its prey, then follow it until
the animal is too week too cary on.
