Both IFSP and IEP were created in order to improve the facilitation of children’s needs at

school. The key difference between an IFSP and an IEP is that an IFSP is targeted at children and the
families and the potential resources a family needs to help them facilitate their child's development.
The IEP is aimed more at academic educational needs of a child. The IEP is a learning guide for
students 3 to 21 years old. It’s main targets are school special education and related services. IFSP
is much more precisely targeted. It is implemented for children from birth to two years old and
covers numerous families in different regions and may include professional planners.
Parents, teachers, school administration and staff may benefit from the opportunity given by the IEP to
work as a team to reach educational goals for children with disabilities. The quality of education directly depends
on the implementation of IEP for every child with a disability.
The IFSP focuses on an in-depth assessment of children's needs and family issues. It icomprises
information on the student's level of progress in all spheres of development, family and child’s expectations of
the educational process , and specific tools which would help them to achieve positive results.
There is a possibility for the IFSP to be offered at home of a child. It looks like detailed plan
in the form of a document. IFSP defines which services are to be provided according to the needs of
a child suffering from intellectual or other disabilities.
An IEP:
- Applies to all aged from 3 to 21 years old
