KIVA CHATTANOOGA

2021 UPDATE

THE COMPANY LAB

1100 Market Street, Suite 100
Chattanooga, TN 37402
Dear Kiva Supporter,

We are tremendously grateful for your support of the Chattanooga

Kiva program.

When we first launched in 2018, we were new to microloans and

LYA KIMBROUGH
the world of crowdfunding. Our mission was to provide access
to capital for small business owners with a focus on minority and CAPITAL ACCESS
female entrepreneurs. MANAGER

It has been both a great opportunity and a challenge, but Kiva is

succeeding by providing loans ranging from $1,000 to $15,000.
That funding is incredibly important for early stage — often
underrepresented — entrepreneurs. By providing access to this
type of capital, we have helped small business owners purchase
equipment, secure inventory, and turn side hustles into full-time
jobs.

To date in 2021, we have six fully funded loans to founders

ranging from a caterer and sheep farmer to a tech-enabled LINDSEY COX
woman’s gym. It has been wonderful to see that momentum CEO
continue with three loans on the platform in August, including one
close to reaching its funding goal.

This year also brought opportunities that lead Katie Hendrix,

CO.LAB’s first Kiva leader, to take on a new challenge at a
different company, and that opened the door for Lya Kimbrough to
step into the role of heading up Kiva.

Even with our transition between Kiva leaders, we are confident

the momentum will continue because more business owners are
understanding the possibilities Kiva provides in the microloan
space. In fact, we have shared our experience and knowledge
with the state, as well as other funders in the area, because Kiva is
unique in the capital stack.

We are confident that your investment over the past three years
will have lasting impact for the twenty-two funded Kiva borrowers
but — more specifically — it has demonstrated that the future of
entrepreneurship in Chattanooga is bright.

Thank you again for your belief in this program and your generous
support in launching Kiva Chattanooga.

TIMELINE UPDATE
Due to the delay in the launch of Kiva cities in 2018, including Chattanooga, we
have shifted the three-year timeline to end in calendar year 2021. Year 1 began
September 1, 2018 and ended December 31, 2019. The extra 4 months in year
one reflects the hiring and training for the Kiva Lead. We believe this best reflects
the timeline under which we can measure outcomes and evaluate the impact of
the program. The table below includes the year 1, year 2, and year 3 activities as
outlined in the proposal. We have updated the table for activity status and/or dates
for future activities.
