SELF-PACED LEARNING MODULE

Learning Area Mathematics 9

Quarter Second
Week Six
Module Five (November 15 - 20, 2021)
Lesson Title Graph of Quadratic Functions

Learning Resources
A. Textbook: pages 81-98
B. ICT Integration: Activities in CLE; pre-recorded video lesson
C. Supplementary Material/s:

Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students shall have:
1. identified quadratic functions;
2. graphed a quadratic function;
3. analyzed the effects of changing the values of a, h and k in the equation
y=a(x−h)2 +k of quadratic function on its graph; and
4. displayed accuracy in solving and graphing quadratic functions.

Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC)

● Graph a quadratic function: (a) domain; (b) range; (c) intercepts; (d) axis of
symmetry; (e) vertex; (f) direction of the opening of the parabola
● Analyze the effects of changing the values of a, h and k in the equation
y=a(x−h)2 +k of quadratic function on its graph

A. GETTING STARTED

Good day! Welcome to Module 5! Today, we will be talking more about

quadratic functions. We’re not just solving anymore but we will be graphing
as well! Let’s start this lesson with a lot of hope and enthusiasm!
In this lesson, you will learn how to graph a quadratic function. First, let
us determine the first and second differences of the following quadratic
functions.

Open the PowerPoint file entitled Differences saved in your OTG flash
drive and answer the given exercise orally.

B. EXPLORING THE LESSON

Now that you know the basics of determining a quadratic function, let us
now learn about the different parts that we need for us to be able to graph
them. To discuss this, watch the video entitled Graphing Quadratic
Functions saved in your OTG flash drive. Take note of the processing
questions before watching it.

Processing Questions:

1. What is concavity?
It tells the direction of the graph/ parabola whether it is upward or
downward.
2. Why is getting the vertex of the quadratic function important in graphing it?
It is important to get the vertex of the quadratic function because it tells the
turning point in the graph. It is also known as minimum point if the graph
opens upward or maximum point if the graph opens downward.
3. When will the graph of the quadratic function be moved at left or right? How
about up and down?
The graph will be moved at left if the there is addition in h, while it turns into
right if there is subtraction in h. On the other hand, the graph will move
upward if the k is increases while it will go downward if the k is decreases.

Activity 1
After being able to gain knowledge about graphing quadratic functions, you
are going to answer this activity from your book:
● Classwork (Nos. 1-2), page 91
Note:
Write your answers in your recycled notebook. Take a photo of your work
and save it in your OTG flash drive inside the folder, Mathematics.

C. ENHANCING SKILLS
As we go on, I want you to watch another video entitled Graphing More
Quadratic Functions to understand the lesson better. After that, answer more
activities related to it.

Activity 2
Let us continue to practice what you have learned by solving the
following activities in your book:
● Practice (Nos. 4 and 13), pages 93-94
● Enrichment (Nos. 7 and 12), page 94
Note:
Write your answers in your recycled notebook. Take a photo of your work
and save it in your OTG flash drive inside the folder, Mathematics.

REFLECTION

● Write your response using the prompt below.

I believe I had given my best effort in this lesson by studying the lesson
thoroughly and spending so much time in answering the activity.

BRAVO! You have just completed your module!

Count this as one of your achievements this year! Keep moving forward!
